When plotted on a graph and the formula is reverse engineered through linear regression, in some models I’m getting speeds even faster than 14. I have been trying to use trendlines that curb the upper end of the faster fighters and the lowest I can get the defender is space 14.
Also consider that the craft has so much power if it turned off its shields and weapons, it would go even faster. I have also been reading the last two novels in the rogue squadron series by Michael Stackpole and the late Aaron Alston. They are fast in the novels as well. If you look at the research paper I have quoted the relevant text and page numbers where applicable. Fortunately the Empire had very few of them because they didn’t realize how valuable their pilots were until it was too late. _________________ Star Wars Deckplans Alliance

X-Wing Alliance Translation
I posted a few updates, and I am working on Hyperdrive speeds next.
CRMcNeill: I have worked on the speed formula but I can't make anything budge. The TIE Avenger is Space: 13 and the TIE Defender is Space: 14. The empire had the fastest fighters but they were too little too late. _________________ Star Wars Deckplans Alliance

I added a section for Ships in Atmosphere. I went with "Proposal One" as seen in the other thread because it is the most conservative expansion into the faster ships speeds only correcting math errors staying as close to the rules-as-written. _________________ Star Wars Deckplans Alliance

CRMcNeill: still working on the speed stats trying to balance the TIE Defender. I made a discovery. The following chart displays the speed metrics in the strategy guide compared to the speed metrics in the data file on the game CD:
Observation 20250623
On page 214 of the "X-Wing Alliance - Strategy Guide" if prefaces the fighter metrics in the book by saying:
Quote: | Speed represents a craft's maximum velocity with its recharge rates all at maintenance. |
I noticed the speed metrics on the CDs data file has slower speeds so I am assuming they are the minimum speed stats. That is to say minimum means shields and weapon recharge set to max. The differences in speed range from 112% - 114% so this difference may be an indicator of reactor output that may be useful in translating other stats.
I will try to make more progress on the research paper this week. _________________ Star Wars Deckplans Alliance

One idea I had in the past was to make putting all power to engines a condition for going All-Out. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. It's expected that you will make up new rules to suit the needs of your game." - The Star Wars Roleplaying Game, 2R&E, pg. 69, WEG, 1996.

Ok I have all the balanced speeds and minimum speeds on a spreadsheet and the difference when put through linear regression and rounding is essentially the same. Both sets of data are proportional. Balanced engine settings are 13% higher than minimum engine settings on average with a variance of about 2%. I wish the SWRPG was so precise.
Totally Games did their statistical work on a spreadsheet not by manual calculator entry and it shows. The PC game data is solid finding only one or maybe two mistakes. Read my research paper for specifics.
BOTTOM LINE: I can't reduce the space speed of the TIE Defender without a gross distortion of all fighter speeds. I can't do that with a clear conscience. I'm sorry but I have exhausted all mathematical and formulaic avenues I know of. The TIE/d is "Space: 14" (7D+1) unless some very persuasive new data is discovered.
Find me a manuscript, CD, and/or test print of the "X-Wing: Rogue Squadron Sourcebook" with official WEG stats of the TIE/d and we can talk. _________________ Star Wars Deckplans Alliance
