although I didn't see ANH in a theater when it first came out (I was barely 4 at the time! I did, however, catch it a time or two in later years), a group of friends and I watched ANH followed back to back with ESB when ESB came out later, our local small theater had put together the special event for the local kids (most went to the big theater in town, so there were surprisingly enough not that many people there, though it was a week or more after the initial release, I forget specifics). I was almost 7 at the time, and there were like 10 or 12 of us (plus a couple of parents to watch over us...), some might have thought we would have made trouble but we sat enraptured for the whole marathon...
Just about the same group of friends got together just 3 years later for ROTJ, same theater, similar event though they spaced the movies out over the day, we all spent basically the entire day in or around the theater that day, again a week or more after the initial release, but just watching the entire trilogy one after the other was fantastic.... _________________ "For every person with a spark of genius, there are a hundred with ignition trouble." |

I don't specifically remember seeing Star Wars, but I have a memory of standing in the theater lobby waiting to buy tickets. However, by the time ESB came out, I was already a serious fan, with an extensive action figure set. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. I'll be 43 in a couple of months. It's amazing how close many of us are in age.
Though I don't remember much from my initial viewing, I do remember doing my best to remember Han's name. Even at 3, I knew he was awesome! _________________ Currently playing D&D 5E and painting an unholy amount of miniatures. |

Saw ANH in the theater. Our small town had to wait in those days to get new releases and would sometimes be delayed months. I think I saw it in late 77 (when I was 4). _________________ Blasted rules. Why can't they just be perfect? |

My small town too. I think it was December 1977 when Star Wars came and I was 6. At the time in my hometown, there was the one old theater downtown dating back to 1916 with one screen, and the drive-in theater a few miles south of town, and neither got movies when they were new. Then in the early 80s our town theater closed off the balcony to turn it into its own screen, and bought out the space beside it to make another small auditorium, which is where we saw RotJ in 1983. So even though downtown had three screens, in early high school a new shopping center was built with a new theater with 5 screens, and they got movies when they were new. In the 90s the drive-in closed, and now the shopping center theater has closed, but the one hundred year old downtown theater is still going strong with its three screens, fully renovated but historically maintained. It was great that my brother and I got to take my son to see TFA there last weekend, as our father had taken us there 38 years ago.
Now I live in the capital city and there are many theaters with many screens all over the place. The biggest one has 30 screens, which is where my son and I saw TFA in IMAX 3D. _________________ *

The theater I watched it in has since burned down, but I remember vividly sitting in the seats waiting. It had a curtain in front of the screen and it pulled open when the movie started. I remember thinking I was going to see a play until the curtain parted to reveal a screen, and I was pissed!
And then I watched the greatest movie of all time, so it worked out.
It's funny, too, because our theater in the mid 80's was split into three screens: the balcony became its own theater and they split the lower section in half. When it burned (to the ground) the owner built a five-screen down the block from scratch.
I remember watching ESB in the large theater, but I think by ROTJ it was split into three.

I am completely new here, also in my 40s, obviously also grew up on a steady diet of Star Wars!
Played the WEG D6 rpg pretty regularly in college. I had an extensive collection of 1e and 2e supplements, which was tragically obliterated over ten years ago in a massive basement back-up.
I recently self-published a color copy of the REUP edition, however, and am hoping to reconvene a group and recreate my fond memories of the game. |

Hello dude! I'm too new here myself to realistically offer a legitimate welcome. So...here's an unofficial one!
I feel the pain. A basement flood destroyed all my AD&D materials....so it was the push that sent my group over to 3rd edition. |

Thanks all!
I actually have made a few posts at google+ - in fact it was there I saw a reference to the Rancor Pit! Both good groups; I think I prefer the traditional forum format, tho. |
