Of course if you are concerrned about balance AND want the Jedi's Force abilities to be a facto in the lightsaber's effectiveness, you could always let the lightsaber keep its 5D damage, and then rule that the weapon deals eituer 5D or the Jedi's control whichever is higher. Though I would still like to retain the "slice through anything" concept.
Perhaps that could be achieved by ignoring scale modifiers... |

That would seem to emulate Star Wars Rebels where a 15 year-old and relatively new apprentice (of a padawan who never completed his own Jedi training) quickly and easily sliced through the outer hull of a star destroyer.

It cuts through flesh as easily as air and can slice through reinforced armored bulkheads like they arent even there. There are a few inconsistencies such as Dooku "nicking" Obi-Wan and Darth Maul scraping the ledge from which ObiWan was hanging, but those are supported by the Jesi's ability to willingly reduce the damage.
Generally speaking, the first hit with a lightsaber ends the fight, so I'd almost be willing to not even require a Jedi to roll damage if he hits.... except that there is somr satisfaction in rolling two handfulls of dice when you finally land that hit in the BBEG and know that his paltry 3D+1 Strengh and +1D energy armor is worthless to resist. |
Just as long as player's would be ok with their CHARACTERS falling victim to enemy force users with lightsabers... _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

For me to say I am disappointed would mean that I had high hopes for it, but I never did. I actually think the show is little better than I thought it would be, but that's not saying much because my expectations were extremely low to begin with.
However my nearly 6 year-old son likes Rebels, so there is that. _________________ *

Yeah... my kids like just about anything animated...
My disappointment comes mostly from the fact that Rebels feels more like a Disney production than it does Star Wars. |

It's happened to one of my characters. It also almost happened to the first character I played, but for what I now know was GM fudging in conjunction with player innovation.
Generally speaking, I'll only allow a player character to die if they have manufactured the circumstances of their own demise, or if they are facing an appropriately and dramatically challenging scenario (i.e. BBEG).
Also, with Jedi, there is that ever handy Force power "Reduce Injury" that can actually stop a character from dying if used immediately upon suffering the damage. Transfer Force works the same if used on "another." |
