No initiative? How does that work? Every game I'm aware of has some way to track when players act. That does sound like a saloon shootout.

One of the most unique methods I've seen for deciding order in a turn is the (fairly) new Marvel Heroic Roleplaying game. In it, the GM decides who goes first (usually picking somebody with Enhanced Reflexes), and for the rest of the combat each character then decides who will go next. But the last person to go in a turn decides who goes first on the following turn. This adds layers of strategy, so the PCs don't all just go before all of the bad guys (as the bad guys would all then get two moves each, if they wanted to).

Yup. You can declare to dodge even after the DM has rolled the dice, but before you get told the result. So a DM who is lenient can (if he knows the shot is going to hit even with range and other mods) ask "are you sure you don't want to dodge the shot?"

You may not declare a dodge after a "hit" roll has been made per RAW.

As per raw yes, that is true. BUT practically every DM i have played under has allowed (mostly for newer players) the opportunity to change their mind by making a dodge roll AFTER the DM rolled the to hit, but before the result is given to them.

For those of you who run combat with rolling for initiative, how do you handle dodge?

Either they use one of their pre-declared actions for said dodge, or they take another reaction (At a further MAP) for it.

In first edition, there is no initiative roll. The GM and PCs declare their actions and then roll. Highest dice score goes first.

Using the example of the blaster shootout, everyone rolls their blaster skill. Highest score shoots first. If he hits his target, the target is stunned at the very least. Targets that are hit are stunned at the very least and lose their action.

Fluid, yes. This is why I asked how you RancorPitians handle dodge using 1st edition RAW.

From what I've been able to gather, most of the active Rancor Pit members don't use 1E RAW.

Oh, so their is an initiative of sorts. I thought you were saying their were no turns, which would be crazy. Whatever it's called, every game has a turn order and a way to determine who goes when. Saloon shootout indeed. Very Happy
