It's really not my intent. Just their bad luck in my games. Harmless droids are not usually going to be the targets of the bad guys, but they still find a way to get into trouble they can't always survive. In more recent years I've had the players of the PC who owns the droid also play the droid so they are out of my direct control, but they still usually stay behind and "guard the ship".
