I've done the same thing. I've built a system completely from scratch. I've used it for every type of RPG game I've ever run.

The system is always being improved, I've worked on it for 10 years now. Personally I find it to be very fast, easy to learn and easy to adapt to include new rules, and I've usually always found an easy way to convert ship stats and damage stats from other games to it.

Although some times I've had to completely redo them entirely. I didn't take a thing from the Star Trek RPG they released a couple years ago. IMO its horrid.
