It's sort of a double post but I tested out the battle between a mon calamari mc40 cruiser and a star destroyer. I used the rules that Darth Ginzain posted.

The battle went kind of like this: I assumed the mon calamari cruiser managed to surprise the star destroyer. So it got to fire its gun first. Turn one was short. It succeeded in combining the six forward guns into a combined bonus 2D. It scored a hit against the star destroyer but it's high hull code and shields they managed to bring up shrugged a rather weak shot (I rolled kind of low)
Star Destroyer's turn: Now that the dragon was awoken it turned its port guns on the bold Mon calamari cruiser. Having failed a command check by only a little he was only able to coordinate up to 15 guns out of the 20 = a bonus 5D. They managed to hit the mon calamari cruiser easily and their pilot didn't take fast enough evasions took the surge of turbo lasers dead on. for damage the first 5 dice before the bonus managed to get 3 sixes one of them being the wild die. Total combined bonus came out to 45. The Mon Calamari cruiser got a measly 14 to resist even with its full shields brought to the front. meaning that the little mon calamari cruiser for whatever reason it decided to attack the star destroyer was destroyed in a massive fireball.

While bad dice rolls and good ones on the imperial side really made the difference in this battle I could have evened things up on the rebel side. Either way the system might just work. I will have to run a few more test battles just to see if everything balance out just right. Don't want my players getting reduced to slag every time something happens first round of combat.

Sounds like your Mon Cal had a manufactories defect in it. hehe. A 14 on 9D? Sounds like you were rolling 10D of damage vs. 9D of hull/shields. All rolls being average the Mon Cal loses eventually, but the SD knows it was in a fight.

The MC40 is a smaller class of mon calamari cruiser. The MC80 would have been a more even fight. The MC40 has only about 6 guns in its forward ark. the MC80 has about 12 guns in its forward arc. it has 9D in total for sheilds where as the MC40 only has 6D for shields. When I was looking through the stats I kind of missed the big ship that was more of a match for a star destroyer.

you should make a spreadsheet with the averages on it. so you can see who would win with the new rules on average Smile

Its not a bad idea. However against a MC40 the win should almost always go to the star destroyer. I am however going to try another mock combat against more even odds a few times just to see. I am going to use the advanced rules on control ionization. I am also going to use the more dramatic table for ship damages someone posted here. Just to make things more interesting.
