Estranged from the regime, he roams the spacelanes with his granddaughter Jill, working odd courier jobs for his one‑time son‑in‑law, smuggler Roark Garnet. Despite flashes of pomp, Jackson’s star charts and battle lore have saved the Dorion Discus more than once, most famously plotting the jump that shook off the Customs Frigate Assessor above Thorgeld I.
