Just finished up a game session. It's an investigation-oriented campaign. I like to create vivid scenes with a lot of life in them. Sometimes I drop a Checkov's gun, and sometimes the details are just window dressing. Today all the players got SUPER interested in the window dressing. So, I wound up moving the clues to different places based on the places they wanted to explore. They were way off the rails, but we all still had a good time. The one person who was the most withdrawn in the previous two adventures was the most engaged this time around. _________________ __________________________________
Before we take any of this too seriously, just remember that in the middle episode a little rubber puppet moves a spaceship with his mind. |

Awesome - that is how it goes sometimes.
In an earlier session in the current adventure - the players decided to ignore the repeated clues, and follow on a minor lead - and ended up having a lot of fun role playing and interacting with made up denizens of a barely there location - they had invested so much into it (it was quite humorous - we were all having a good time) - that I decided that one of the new NPCs would have the clue they needed ....
New npc" You guys are looking for a retired clone trooper... well, normally we don't talk about 'old hook' - but you folks are pretty nice for off worlders ,,,"
The retired clone trooper who was a gladiatorial referee on the Wheel - now became an old retired clone fisherman on a small costal colony named "hook".
it is not easy as a GM to let things flow if the players are having fun - and sometimes we have to switch things up - but they can lead to a lot of fun encounters. _________________ SW Fan, Gamer, Comic, Corporate nerd.

Some of the more enjoyed games, are when the players take the lead, in following red herrings, or stuff not supposed to be important, BUT because of their pushing for it, the dm Makes it important. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Had a game last night. Was bit on the boring side as one of the players sent me in a direction I was not prepared for and the bulk of the session was run in off-the-top-of-my-head mode. Fortunately I had good notes and backstory to fall back on.
The party's doctor pursued an archaeological dig site and had university NPCs/GMCs doing the bulk of the heavy lifting. Half the player group was not well engaged.
It was a clunky slow-paced session. You can't win them all. _________________ Star Wars Deckplans Alliance

So after trying a one-shot D6 1e for my core "adult" group two years ago that crashed and burned, I learned what I perceived as 1e's shortcomings in combat.
I ended up splicing some of Barebones MiniSix onto 1e. Specifically static defenses (Dodge is a fixed number, based on 3x the number of dice + pips; so a Dodge of 3D+1 is "10"). I also implemented static damage resistance foll rolls against damage and for parries. I eliminated all parry skills (Brawling Parry, Melee Parry, Lightsaber Parry, etc) and use the base skill (Brawling, Melee, Lightsaber, etc.). I also eliminated a few skills (Starship Shields, Cultures, etc).
The result was a streamlined cinematic game.
I ran a test with my kid's teen's group for over a year. It played amazingly!
That campaign just wrapped up a few months ago. _________________ "The internet is a pathway to many abilities, some considered to be unnatural." - Sheev Zuckerberg |

Had a Session this weekend.
Went well - party is near the ending point of an adventure where they are trying to break out captured jedi from the Citadel - which during the Imperial era is still under separatist control (some independent droids - commonly known as Separatist holdouts).
This adventure was heavily influenced by the Clone Wars animated episodes about the Citadel - a prison for "jedi who have lost their way", which apparently had been forgotten after order 66.
Anyway - the party - in the process of rescuing an Order66 survivor - learns more about the Droids' perspective on things -
* The Empire is just the corrupt republic not trying to hide anymore
* The Jedi are showing their true colors - by evidence of the Inquisitorius
* They are interpreting their last mission to capture any jedi.
* They have actually managed to capture an inquisitor AND a Jedi....
The party, realizing that it might be too impossible to convince the droids that the Empire IS the enemy, Inquisitors are not the same as jedi in hiding - and to join the nascent rebellion.
AS The GM, this was not the main plot point - but I had put in the possibility - depending on how destructive the party was during the rescue - it might work out.
It would make a pretty good rebel/Jedi safe house (if not a bit dreary).
Side note; I use a lot of various sources for adventure ideas - and often, I tie backgrounds and events to the different characters. Knowledge of the events in the Clone Wars era content fit with one of the characters - so I instructed that player to watch certain episodes - and could use that knowledge in their adventure...
Overall - worked out pretty well - some injuries and a lot of explosiions - but diplomacy may still be an option... never know what a party will do.
Side note on Fixed Defense: I had considered this for our game - a few other d6 based systems do indeed do this. Glad to hear it works out for other groups.
Best of luck everyone in their games. _________________ SW Fan, Gamer, Comic, Corporate nerd.
