So Monday i came down with what mom's having; a really bad cold or something called 'RSV'...
Nasty stuff.

After cleaning out the fridge today i just napped the whole afternoon.
Anyway, mom & i are in quarantine at the house & not joining the gathering @ dad's farm.
i am taking meds & drinking tea for my throat & sinuses...
i hope it's not 'RSV', which tends to have a 5-6 week duration...
I took a covid test which was negative Tues..

I hope you all are having a safe & healthy Happy Thanksgiving!
God bless!

Update, day 8? 9?
Mom (week 4) is feeling better & babysitting again, while i am still miserable.
i did help get the big pot ready for mom to make soup, so there's that.
i'm drinking plenty of fluids, & eating ginger slices which help clear sinuses.

It sucks to be sick. Glad your mom is feeling better. Unfortunately it feels like I am coming down with something. I got my flu shot and the updated covid booster last month, so hopefully this is just a cold.

i'll hope & pray it's only a cold & not the rsv super-cold.

Update, day 19
Mom is feeling a lot better but still has a persistent cough; w/her COPD i remain concerned...
i am feeling maybe 30-35% better? Still plenty crappy though.
i'm finishing week 3 so mom's finishing her 5th week...
RSV is hitting ppl here hard; cough drops are selling out at all the stores.
Tues-Thur we had to evacuate the house & stay at dad's farm while plumbers fixed pipes; we had sewage backing up into the house, so cleanup will be an ongoing chore for a while...
at least we can use sinks & bath again...

apparently one RSV symptom/side effect is reduced I.Q. ....

I'm sorry to hear that. I use Ricola drops and they are very good.

My cold did get fairly severe for a few days but it seems to have gotten better this week. Some symptoms still persist but this does not seem like the rsv because respiratory symptoms never got too severe and that is more common in children. So far my wife and son have not shown any symptoms at all so hopefully they have escaped getting this cold. I normally only get sick after one of them get it and they give it to me, but I must have picked up this cold elsewhere.

I think I may have gotten it from my mom because she had come down with something in the hospital. She had a cough. And despite being masked when I visited her on Thanksgiving, I kept bending down to hear her talk because she had lost her voice. My mask wasn't too tight at the top so it may have slipped in the top. I haven't been back to visit my mom since Thanksgiving because I am not going to take a cold into a hospital and expose patients already dealing with others stuff or hospital staff. She just moved to a new rehab facility this week and I'm not sure of the visitor policy yet (my step-dad will let me know).

RSV
AFAIK, medical services are presently telling people to assume any severe cold is RSV, most places won't test for RSV because it usually hits young children. A lot of older people have been hospitalized with it this winter.
News coverage my be very inconsistent due to people in different regions having different reactions. Some stations are covering far more than others; my folks & i have heard it covered on NPR.
i am now in my 4th week of it.

That sucks. Thankfully I only have minor sinus drainage now. Whatever it is, it's on its way out.

Amen & Godspeed on recovery, Whill!

In other news, dad started a fire when the pot he put on the stove had an insulated pad hitch a ride, clinging the bottom of the pot. To clear out the thick toxic smoke we opened both the front & back doors, flushing out the toxic cloud of brown smoke for brisk, 20° air.
Unsurprisingly, i was first to spot the rapidly expanding plume of smoke.

Shocked Christmas fire! I'm glad it wasn't worse.

Mom & i are doing better overall, though we both have persistent coughs; today i completed the 7-day Rx antibiotics, for a 'possible' sinus infection. Thank God i am not miserable 24/7!

So are we! Callie, our cat, hid during the calamity. We're all fine here, the odor is 99% gone.

I saw something that said Buffalo is now bracing for flooding, I'm guessing from the snow melting. (Last time we had a big snow melt, my basement flooded a bit, but the sump pumps were replaced after that.)

Ohio got above freezing today too but I haven't been outside yet today to see if anything is really melting. It's only 38° right now.

We lost power at ≈9:57am, got it back by ≈11:30am...
I tried shoveling the driveway today; only cleared 7/8 of one side of dad's truck before i was too sore & tired to continue...
Can't believe what i did took about an hour...
