A D&D synergy bonus was a flat modifier simply for having the appropriate skill, with no requirement for a skill roll and no corresponding increase in synergy bonus as the character's skill level increases. With a flat +1D bonus regardless of the degree of success on the skill roll, your version more closely resembles a synergy bonus than mine.

The goal with this rule is not merely to generate bonuses, but to provide an incentive for players to make greater use of their Knowledge attribute, by actually requiring a roll of the dice and linking an increased bonus to an increased skill level. I have yet to see an alternative suggestion that meets both requirements.

Perhaps the synergy bonus could be based on a similar principle.

Unless that can somehow be tied to the RoE alternate damage rule, it should probably be moved to a different topic.
