Good point, and a logical application.

It is a logical expression, my only quip is why is it a 'freebie'. To me any synergy bonuses should come from USE of the skill. Not automatically.

Well, my thinking is that they shouldn't be "free" actions, but more like reduced cost. I explained my reasoning above in that when knowledge about a particular subject crosses over the existing skill boundaries, the mind tends to recall information from multiple skill sets more easily. As such, using multiple Knowledge skills with regards to a single subject would only cost 1 pip for a MAP, rather than a full 1D.

Come to think of it Knowledge might be a good place for an advanced skill based on specific subjects with cross skill knowledge. A member of the military might have the (A)Military skill, with Bureaucracy: Military, Cultures: Military, Scholar: Military and Tactics as prerequisites, and other advanced skills could be created as required.

But what would that advanced skill cover/be used for?

Well, since Advanced Skills stack with their prerequisites, once you reach a certain point on the number of prerequisites, it because more cost effective CP wise to increase the Advanced skill rather than put CPs into the prerequisites. In addition, since Advanced skills improve rapidly at lower levels, it would allow individual characters to build up a specific area of focus based on their background.

But what i am getting at is what is that advanced skill FOR?.
Take Medicine. First aid is the pre-requisite, but first aid is just that, battle field medicing. Not operations, not use of bacta tanks etc.

What is this (A) military going to do?

Roll it stacked with your military-related Knowledge skills to boost your Command rolls, perhaps? That's just one possible application. I've always felt that Medicine should have some prerequisites in the Knowledge field in so far as Alien Species studies, biology, chemistry, etc.

Basically, what I'm thinking is that Advanced Skills could be the basis not just for advanced knowledge, but for an actual career, almost a character class of sorts. If a character is in the military and meets the prerequisites, he spends CP to improve his (A)Military skill. Then he retires and goes into business, and some of his skills come in handy with his new skill (A)Commerce. And so on and so forth. Advanced skills could be general in form (like Military) or more specific (Alliance Navy, Imperial Army, etc).

IMO, Advanced Skills have been drastically underused in the RAW. Check out the section on (A) Engineering on page 3 of Hideouts and Strongholds. (A)Engineering: Civil/Industrial has prerequisites in both Technical and Knowledge attributes, while (A)Engineering: Installation has other Advanced Skills as prerequisites.

The short version of my idea here is that, just like in real life, using an Advanced Skill as a specific area of focus allows you to improve a smaller, more specific category of skills that form the basis of any job or career that would normally require multiple skills and attributes.

I guess, per the RAW, all Knowledge rolls should be a minimum of one round; I'd still hesitate to impose a MAP for two related fields, giving instead a 'synergy' bonus from one to the other might be a better way to do it.

I created over 100 Skills for our supers game we play, and in that one Body Language is one of the skills that can be very helpful for characters who are trying to gauge something about somebody else. It can tell you the mood or emotional state of someone else, give you an idea if they're lying or bluffing, and a whole lot more. A good skill to know.

I'd like to see that list...

Actually, acrobatics is a strength skill already. Look at the Triani race.

Not sure why running was a dexterity skill in the first place...

Yeah, this thing:

http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080926124618/starwars/images/6/62/Han_Solo_and_the_Corporate_Sector_Sourcebook.jpg

It's not bad. It covers the old, pulpy Han Solo trilogy that they put out in the pre-Zahn era of writing.

There are quite a few on eBay right now for a pretty decent price:
