PS: Its almost always better to keep playing existing characters instead of creating new ones all the time. That way both you and the players become attached to your characters, and a game always more fun if you care about the characters involved. |
True, but if you keep pulling those types of 'saves out', then the threat of death seems hollow. |
Some people enjoy games where the characters are bigger-than-life and walk away from every situation. On the other hand, most people enjoy the sense of suspense that real danger represents. I've found that in most cases, a close brush with death will humble a character somewhat.
But then again, sometimes, you just have to let a character die. Just a few weeks ago, I had a campaign come to an end when one player did something stupid that got everyone BUT him killed, . . .
As with almost everything in a roleplaying game, its a matter of whats right for you and your group. |

True. Though for RPG's most i have encountered at least prefer the pretense death can happen (even if it does not actually come about) _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Yes, write yourself a flow chart. _________________ Know Jesus, Know Peace.

Create a scene, figure two or three of the more likely* PC choices and go from there. I find it makes it easier to adapt the narrative to a broader selections of outcomes and direct it back to the intended conclusion.
If I am designing scenarios and encounters, I do try to leave them open enough so they can be easily adapted to a context outside of its original intent... PCs can do that sometimes.
