I think this is a product of the general idea of NPC powers evolving over time. In the 80s the view of NPCs was still 'contaminated' with the AD&D idea that non-specific NPCs should be very weak. Just look at the main Bounty Hunters in Tatooine Manhunt for example. They have one good skill, a couple acceptable and several completely missing. They were ment to be 'challenging' at best, and the non specific ones where just made to be cannon fodder. Over time the RPG collective mentality overcame this flaw, making NPCs more powerful and in many cases more powerful than the NPCs. This forces PCs to adopt other ways of approach than direct confrontation.
I think it is more the fact that the WEG scenarios in the 1980s were written for a group of PCs at starting level or a bit above to have a chance to succeed. In contrast something like Wretched Hives of Scum & Villainy published in 1997 routinely has most NPCs with skills from 9D-12D. Starting PCs with a 6D skill would just be cannon fodder to a Wretched Hives bouncer and Darth Vader or Han Solo would find some of those NPCs more than a challenge.

I think I like, the lower stats for more of the standard NPCs. Really make the PCs or important characters stand out that much more.

For some of the stats that are better, when I redo collective for my use after I finish it, I think I will make some of the "better" stated units as personal units. Like Rebel Commando's would be Bren's Commando's. Good stormtroopers would 501st, etc.

Anyways, for an Update the first era I am doing is Rise of the Empire - Return of the Jedi. This is what I have done for the Rebels.

Rebel Soldier (2nd Edition)
Rebel Pilots (Trilogy Sourcebook)
SpecForce Marine (Rebel Alliance Sourcebook)
SpecForce Pathfinders (Rebel Alliance Sourcebook)
SpecForce Urban Guerilla (Rebel Alliance Sourcebook)
SpecForce Wilderness (Rebel Alliance Sourcebook)
SpecForce Technicians (Rebel Alliance Sourcebook)
SpecForce Infiltrators (Rebel Alliance Sourcebook)
SpecForce Heavy Weapons Crew (Rebel Alliance Sourcebook)
Echo Base Trooper (Galaxy Guide 3)
Snowspeeder Pilot (Galaxy Guide 3)
Mon Calamari Crewman (Galaxy Guide 5)
Rebel Commandos (Galaxy Guide 5)

And that is what I'll include for this version. I'm onto the Imperials now. This is what I've completed.

Imperial Army Trooper (Imperial Sourcebook)
Veteran Imperial Army Trooper (Imperial Sourcebook)
Imperial Army Assault Trooper (Imperial Sourcebook)

So I hope to get the Imperials done this week. There are more of them then the Rebels, so it will probably take longer. One thing I dislike are the veteran units. But they are from the Imperial Sourcebook, so WEG did stat them so I am going to include them.

Hey there!

Was wondering how this project was progressing? Initial review looked good, and so was anxiously awaiting the 'final' copy...

Sorry, for the lack of updates ;P.

I became ill. I am back onto it though and deep into the Independents.

I think I will release a Rise of the Empire to Return of the Jedi version first.

Though one problem I am going into is that it is odt format. I hear you can get some free, legally, pdf converters some-where round the web. So when I finish the independents I will try to tackle that so everyone can have access without getting openoffice.

CutePDF springs to mind - it installs as a printer and converts anything you can print into a pdf file

pdf 995 is decent if you pay the $10 activation fee, but the free version works as well.

Also, Primo PDF is real nice. I use that most of the time.

On your previous suggestion I've used the free version of PDF 995 and the only bad thing about it is after each conversion, it pops up with an add for the paid version. It's a small price to pay if you can't afford to pay for it.

The only problem with any of these PDF converters is, IMO that you have no control over where on your computer the programs are installed - it causes a problem for people like me, who have a small HD with only Windows on it and everything else on a larger drive. Granted I need to upgrade my Windows Drive to something bigger but with my finances the way they are atm that just isnt an option Sad

Awesome, thanks for all the suggestions guys.

I just realized I am also going to include the Clones, from the Clone Wars, and the Separatist Army droids this version.

Another reason why it took me a bit, is because I refused to move by a NPC unless I had at least TWO pictures to represent it. Though I've dropped that attitude now, and only need at least ONE picture Wink.

I've found at least for essentially all the npcs, so hopefully I don't get hung up on this.

I went with Primo PDf, and this is amazing. I can't believe I didn't look into something like this a long time ago.

I have a question, in most pdf films for D6 when they have like a table or chart... They usually have it as shaded in same way and in a table.

Is this just making a table, and then coloring the background light gray?

Hey there, is this PDF available now? Or did I miss where it's available from?

I'd really like to see the end result!

Not yet. I apologize I keep getting ill

Though I am still workin on it, I have gotten through all the fringe that I am including in this version, and all the clone troopers.

The only thing left is the Separatists that I am putting in, and then I'll release the pdf.

I consider it a first draft, so once it is out if people are still interested I'm willing to keep making more versions. Hopefully they won't take as long as the first.
