Well my mom's doing poorly. Around may/june time frame, she had a cyst in her belly that popped (big one too), and had to get cleared out. BUT it seems the docs must have left something bad in side, as the cyst appears to have come back. That's giving her issues moving, and eating...

That sucks! I hope things start to go the right direction soon.

Unfortunately my mom had to be moved from the latest rehab facility to the hospital for another surgery. All hope of her ever walking again is gone, but we still have no idea when she will even be able to start using a wheelchair and go home. She has been in three hospitals and two rehab facilities since September.

That sucks.. I am waiting on a call back from the hospital to see when she can go in.. Here's hoping it comes BEFORE her cyst pops, like it did last time...

I am sorry I have not offered my sympathies or well wishes sooner. I am too often lost in my own mind. I hope everyone has the time they need to spend with their loved ones.

I am just wondering (fearing) after THIS one is done, in 6-8 months we may have Yet another abdominal abcess to worry about.. She seems to be very prone to getting abcesses/cysts..

Thanks all..

Now to figure out what's causing her feet to swell/get numb (poor circulation we suspect).. May need to get one of those foot spa/bath thinggies..

When I had my hospitalizing gallbladder attack a little over two years ago, I had to get a CT scan, which is where they discovered I had kidney stones in my right kidney and an aneurism near my left kidney. No one knows how long I've had the aneurism, but the cardiologist said my body encased it in a calcium shell which protects it. I got a second CT scan 7 months later and it hadn't changed, so I have to get it checked less often now though. My cardiologist observed that I retained a little fluid in my ankles, so I was prescribed baby aspirin and told to wear compression socks, which I wear all the time except when I am sleeping.

If her foot swelling is just fluid retention from poor circulation, then aspirin and compression socks may help.

We've tried compression socks (if they fit that is), which really didn't do much. BUT it seems since her hospital stay, her feet have BOTH now swolen up.. i checked the meds they gave her, and NONE list "Swelling of feet" as a side effect.. So that's out. She wore hospital leg compression thinggies on, when she was in the bed (for four days).. Its getting frustrating.

I am contemplating buying one of those foot bath/spa massagers that heat and bubble the water, to see if that helps, WHILE we try to get a Primary care physician assigned.. Sucks that technically though she HAS a SSN, its considered "inactive", due to her living out of the country since the late 70s Till 08, when i brought her back from the UK.. ANd she was Beyond the age which she could 'reactivate it' as they are for work, and she's retired.. So due to that, she can't get on medicaid/medicare.. The Doc we saw for her belly, has given us a list of Places to try to get a Primary care physician, and hopefully, once that's done, we can THEN get something done...

i need to have my legs elevated whenever i am not walking or standing; failing to do so causes swelling as my poor circulation makes my legs retain fluid.
I am also supposed to be taking a water pill daily but haven't kept to it as it is very difficult to have a productive day when made a prisoner of the bathroom for 4+ hours...
DO NOT force compression socks onto legs that are hugely swollen! I learned the hard way it causes massive bruising which is both painful & an impediment to circulation, which will cause more swelling...

..
garhkal, i think you may have mixed up this thread with the Medical Updates thread, which is perfectly understandable. Bad news can be a lot to deal with, and i sympathize. Our mothers are important to us & it's hard on everyone when they suffer. May she have a quick recovery!
I will continue to hope & pray for all our mothers.
Godspeed & God bless!
