Here is some of the scatter terrain I've been assembling for miniature battles.

First off, I present palm tree scatter (click for larger image):

To make, I shaved down 1/2" insulation foam, hot glued the palm trees to the foam, and then PVA glued white sand. After the glue dried, I painted the sand tan and dry brushed an off-white. Lastly, I hollowed out the bottom and hot glued in some 1" fender washers for support.

Next up, some jungle scatter.

I started off with caulking some old CDs, shaping the caulk into some uneven ground.

After that dried, I PVA glued on some Quikcrete and flocking and hot glued some aquarium rocks and plants. In the last two pics are some palm tree cake toppers with some Quikcrete glued on.

More of the same only this time more temperate terrain.

Assembly was the same as above, though instead of caulk, I used spackle to similar results. The trees were purchased at various hobby stores over the years. Leeroy Jenkins is a 30mm mini used for scale with the bonsai tree, while my 28mm stromtrooper officer roams the deciduous and conifer trees.

Back to the 1/2" foam, I shaved down some lumps and PVA glued on some aquarium gravel. Took forever to dry. Then I set to work making tufts of grass out of cheap Dollar Tree twine. I unraveled the string, looped the strands around my fingers, and then snipped all of the loops. A dab of hot glue and voila! (I made the mistake of cooling them on plastic...which melted. I switched to baking paper later.)

The tufts were trimmed and then attached to the rock piles. A wash and drybrush and I called it complete.

The nice thing is these rocky lumps work in just about any terrain - desert, tundra, hills - anywhere vegetation is sparse.

Lastly, I went to the Dollar Tree and bought some ninja sticks.

I chopped off the handles and hot glued the "wood" part to some more CDs. Then it was spackle, followed by Quikcrete, and finally touching up with some paint to cover my sloppy spackling.

The bases look boring, but I ran out of hot glue, and then bought the wrong size, so I'll update when I have the rest of the greenery attached.

Ryan, thanks for sharing, but going forward please make sure that images or combination of images side-by-side are no more than a total of 750 pixels wide. For these images, more than two beside each other makes the thread page too wide and requires right-left scroll bar usage. I went ahead an edited your posts this time, but FYI I lost one of your hyperlinks in the process.

Thanks.

Nice work. Though you must have a large collection of old CD's for doing that.

Thanks.

Sorry about that. I was on a large, widescreen monitor and forgot. I'll fix the link when I get home.

Thanks. I'm rough with CDs and had to replace a bunch of them, so I ended up with stacks of them sitting around. At least I found another use for them.

Crates - Dollar Tree foam counting blocks. Indentations were made by pressing a Bic pen tube into the middle of the faces and then drawing lines with the reassembled pen. I'll probably paint them and add stencils and/or labels at some point.

MadCatTog on eBay sells some nice decals.

I added foliage to bases of the big trunks.

Some action shots with Wizards of the Coast minis and Hot Wheels speederbikes (which scale very nicely):

Mining Guild TIE Fighters - trimmed wings of Micro Machines Battle-damaged TIES, added Green Stuff to fill some trim, repainted and super-glued tiny laser-printed emblems. (Note: these were painted without my magnifying headset and with shaky hands. They looks okay on the table, though.)
