Hello, I'm Cpkeyes. A long time RPer who has loved StarWars (And sci-fi, it's my favorite genre since I find it's easy to basically do whatever you want in it) side he was a wee lad. I enjoy writing (I want to become a filmmaker) and making terrible vehicles (Look at the KET-24) and have played all three StarWars RPG systems, D6 is my favorite so far since it seems very customizable.
I also have my own sci-fi universe but that's not important. |

I'm guessing your name is supposed to say "Corporal Keyes" or somesuch, but the first time I saw your handle I thought it meant something along the lines of a violent demonstration: "See? *Poke eyes*"

Eh, give him time. He's only a few posts away from Sub-Lieutenant. _________________ Sutehp's RPG Goodies

Hey, I'm still a line officer! If all of the senior officers are killed, I'm in command!
That's how that works, right? |

NOG: Just a few more minutes, Commander.
O'BRIEN: That's Captain. It's an old naval tradition. Whoever's in command of a ship, regardless of rank, is referred to as Captain.
NOG: You mean if I had to take command, I would be called Captain too?
O'BRIEN: Cadet, by the time you took command, there'd be nobody left to call you anything.
NOG: Good point.

Behind the Lines, Episode 4, Season 6. IIRC, it happened within the first ten or fifteen minutes of the episode, just before the Defiant gets underway to destroy the Dominion sensor array in the Argolis Cluster. Sisko gets Kicked Upstairs to become Vice Admiral Ross' adjutant (no increase in rank, though), so Dax, as the Defiant's XO, takes command for the mission (also without getting a promotion in rank). So basically, Sisko and Dax both get more important jobs with bigger and more catastrophic consequences if they f*** up, but without any increase in pay or rank.
Yeah, Starfleet friggin' defines Mildly Military. Don't even get me started on Valiant, the episode where Jake and Nog get rescued by a Defiant-class ship crewed by nothing but cadets. And the captain of the ship, who is still a cadet, orders Nog around as one of his crew and even makes him Chief Engineer. Keep in mind that none of the cadets on the Valiant have even graduated Starfleet Academy yet and Nog, by this time, is already a commissioned officer.
If anything, Nog, as a commissioned officer (even as an Ensign), had every right to take command of the Valiant and put "Captain" Waters in his place and order the Valiant back to Federation territory. But apparently, the DS9 writers were invoking 19th century naval tradition where an acting captain could only be removed by a flag officer. OTOH, the crew of kids was so loyal to Waters that if Nog had tried to relieve him, they would have thrown Nog in the brig (along with Jake, who was unjustifiably in there already). _________________ Sutehp's RPG Goodies
