Hi,

Typically, an ISD of the Imperial (Imperator) class carries a full crew complement of around 36,000 and a stormtrooper division of 9700. My questions are: 1) Are the stormtroopers used for boarding actions and invasions only or are they used as security and guards aboard an ISD and 2) Does the crew complement include guards?

Since Stormtroopers are separate from the Imperial Navy (and I thnk listed as passengers in the Star Destroyer write-up??) I would say that they are not counted as part of the guards on the ship. The navy probably has its own troopers/guards to fill that role and the Stormtroopers are more boarding other vessles, ground deployment, or whatever else it is that Stormtroopers do to strike fear into the galaxy Wink

U.S. Navy ships that have a Marine Corp. detachment use them as guards, they may not guard everything on the ship, but they will be guarding the high value cargo and critical systems. Think of it this way, if you have a bunch of guys specifically trained for hand to hand/close quarters combat, would you leave them sitting around doing nothing until it was time to invade something or put them to work, both keeping them out of trouble, caused by boredom and making your secure areas even more secure, due to better training/equipment?

I agree with Orion on this. It would make little sense to have them and not utilize them in some fashion. They wouldn't be breaking up fights in the canteen or doing routine security walk-about, but they may certainly guard critical engineering spaces, officers quarters, purser's area, etc.[/b]
