No matter how fast the reflexes. | Mythbusters can nearly dodge sniper shots, so if you use the visible-bolt interpretation of blasters, there's a good chance at long range. That said, I veiw dodging as the land-based equivalent of jinking and juking that fighter pilots do for gun defense. An unpredictably-moving target is much harder to hit. _________________ Or that excessively long "Noooooooooo" was the Whining Side of the Force leaving him. - Dustflier

I assume the dodge skill is a combination of the jinking and juking you mentioned and what is functionally an RPG version of narrative plot armor. |

Yea, I admit I haven't seen some of the current episodes, but what mythbusters was that?
I love that show . |

They started by measuring the distance at which you could see a muzzle flash. They got two different datasets (one for real world muzzle flash, and one for hollywood blanks). Then they built a timer that would start when a round left the muzzle of a rifle, and stop when it penetrated a target downrange at the maximum distance they could see muzzle flash from. Then they had a sniper fire a blank, which started a timer that was connected to a paintball gun so that a paintball round would reach the mythbuster target as soon as a bullet would have in real life combat. Then Adam and Jamie stood in front of the paintball gun looking for muzzle flash, and dodged out of the way as soon as they saw it. Rinse and repeat.
Most of the paintballs hit Adam clean in the chest and Jamie in the flank. They weren't able to dodge any of them, but they were consistently close.
Since a blaster bolt is arguably visible at a much greater range than a muzzle flash, and since the visible bolt of a blaster travels much slower than sniper rounds, you could make the case that a long range sniper shot from a blaster could be dodged while the bolt was in transit. (If you subscribe to my view of blaster physics, rather than atgxtg's ) _________________ Or that excessively long "Noooooooooo" was the Whining Side of the Force leaving him. - Dustflier

Probably wouldn't be too hard.... (to dodge better than Adam, anyway) _________________ Blasted rules. Why can't they just be perfect? |

I thank the lord every morning that Palladium Press never managed to get it's hooks into the Star Wars franchise. Can you guys imagine how screwed up the rules and stats would be if Kevin Sembeida were to get ahold of them. In Rifts the first couple of books were pretty consistant and then everything got turned on its head and then NOTHING was consistant again.
KS would probably have us all chasing down Federation of Magic Jedi sorcerers from bases on the Coalition state of Coruscant lol |
