I'm going to really have to think on this one (and run it by my players), as I think I'm inclined to use one of the two options discussed here. |
I've used something similar. One suggestion : extend the number of Stun results beyond Killed/4 Stuns. Something like 1 Stun per 4 over the STR roll or some such. Otherwise it becomes impossible to Stun anything with a STR of 5D or greater with one hit. |
I'm wondering if that's such a bad thing? Big, strong targets can be tougher to stun in real life, too. I'm wondering if limiting weapons set to stun to short range or closer and using the rules Quetz suggested might be enough. _________________ Currently Running: Villains & Vigilantes (a 32-year-old campaign with multiple groups) and D6 Star Wars; mostly on hiatus are Adventures in Middle-earth and Delta Green |

I think the following incorporates all of the concerns:
Stun Damage
A weapon set to stun only works at Short range or closer. A result more serious than “stunned” results in the character being stunned x2, Incapacitated produces stunned x3, Mortally Wounded stunned x4, and Killed stunned x5. At the GM’s option, a result that beats the Difficulty Number by a significant amount may add even more stunned results.
Let me know if you think it's too much or too restrictive. _________________ Currently Running: Villains & Vigilantes (a 32-year-old campaign with multiple groups) and D6 Star Wars; mostly on hiatus are Adventures in Middle-earth and Delta Green |

Well, normally you're at Short Range anyway, so it's not really restrictive. But, as seen in the Clone Wars Animated Series, I don't see a reason to limit it to Short Range, but thats just me. But all in all, this would make stun much less overpowered then it is now and balance it out a lot. |

The short range helps to keep it from being overpowering. While 2-3 Stuns is better than an auto-KO, most NPCs will drop on 2 stuns and most PCs drop on 3 stuns.
BTW since 0-3 result is a 1D stun by the RAW, should we have 0-8 be a Stun, or 0-3 Stun, 4-8 Stun 2? |

Wow.. most of the ranged combats i get into are at least medium range for blaster pistols.. sometimes long (so it would be medium for rifles).. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Well, we only played 2 Adventures yet (self made, in the Clone Wars era), and usually we encountered enemies indoors, so fighting with them at long or medium range wasn't really possible. |

I think the majority of blaster fights I've seen in this game have been at Medium range.
As to the 0-3, 4-8 bit, I think I'll see how things fall for now (play it by ear) and adjust later. _________________ Currently Running: Villains & Vigilantes (a 32-year-old campaign with multiple groups) and D6 Star Wars; mostly on hiatus are Adventures in Middle-earth and Delta Green |
