Quoting a paragraph out of a novel as a reference would fall under "fair use". Don't go around putting up pages of text, though. _________________ Arek | Kage |

You can quote a few sentences to a paragraph, as long as properly referenced (Title of book and Author) for Research Purposes. IIRC, that's all you need.
Been awhile since I did research, however... |

The law is very nonspecific, and each case is decided separately from one another. Intention, whether or not you're attempting to profit or allow others to profit by quoting it, the amount of text quoted in proportion to the size of the work, and other things all factor into whether or not it's considered fair use. Just use your head and only quote what's needed to make your point, basically. _________________ Arek | Kage |

I always thought that, for example, the helmet of an X-wing pilot has something the pilot pulls down over his face, out of the helmet itself, somewhat like a welder's mask, but inside the helmet. It has enough bulk for something of Star Wars tech level to be in there, and it's certainly not designed to protect the pilot from blunt force trauma to the head. We just never see a pilot wearing it, so we can see the face of the actor. |

Didn't Luke eject in Zahn's first novel? Or did he just shut the ship down? Can't remember (and never liked the book anyways).
Also, I seem to recall this being addressed in the 1st Ed Sourcebook under the X-Wing part, that describes what happens when a pilot ejects (and based off Ep IV, when Biggs tells Porkins to "Eject!" I'd assume they did eject in space). Something about having only a few hours of life support, but a last ditch effort before a ship blew up.

I believe the rebel pilot chest pack does have something of a magnetic field that it can create, similar to what the hangers of the death star or imperial star destroyers can do, to have a small bubble of atmosphere that provides them with a few hours of survivability. Im sure eventaully the air gets stale and the cold sets in. |
