Yeah, a very good point. Who knows what sort of stuff they might throw away in the Star Wars Universe. Just think of all the hazardous stuff we toss away now that people didn't even dream of a century ago. The Empire is probably tossing away some very hazardous stuff.

THat is a good point. Often people do chuck out batteries or the like which still has a charge on, but not sufficient to do the job.

Rgr that, & I never thought of that Confused

From experience, there are military batteries that HAVE to be vented and the charge completely depleted or bad things happen ... Like getting the old 'dead' batteries wet when a camel pack bladder busts, in a ruck, and it all of a sudden it gets HOT and smells (luckily it didn't self ignite Shocked . A whole team had to jump out of the 2 1/2 before it stopped and we had to throw the ruck out off the road until it cooled off. That was an interesting safety report I had to fill out in the AAR ...

With that, it does justify then 'magnetic' sealing the garbage disposal as much as possible against explosions (and smell too!)

Ouch.. Not had that happen, but did have some "supposedly dead 9volt's, get wire mesh blown across their terminals when we were brushing down a vehicle.. They didn't blow up, but you should have seen the panic when the mesh melted..

On the subject of things being magnetically sealed, I ran across an entry in Cracken's Rebel Field Guide concerning how to defeat a magnetic seal (Datapage 26.) Apparently it involves some sort of magnetic pulse flowing along the walls of a sealed chamber, according to the description, and it's possible to short it out if you happen to have a positive coupler (a common component found in droids, vehicles and computers) and something to fashion a long strip of metal from. There's also a funny little note concerning Luke Skywalker having, at some point, asked General Cracken about how to get out of that "situation" (a rather prudent question, actually.)

That answer actually makes some sense electrically. Magnetically locked, probably means that they use a strong electromagnetic to to hold onto another piece of metal (or even another electromagnet). A strong magnetic field would attract something with an opposite plarity.

Now if magnetic field has the same polarity of something, say a blaster bolt, it will repel the aforementioned something. Just how well it repels (or even how well it attracts) the something depending on how powerful the magnetic field is.

The positive coupler and metal strip could cancel out the magnetic lock's polarity and short out the electromagnet, thus defeating the seal.
