Would bullets designed for armor piercing be better at 'following through"?

I didn't find AP rounds in official books, only explosive slugs in Rebel Specforce Handbook that are good against heavy armor (+1D damage if target wears armor 1D or better).

In Cyberpunk 2020 AP rounds worked as following: armor value is halved, but damage that pass through is also halved. In SW RPG it probably wouldn't work well (due to soak roll), but maybe they could work like that: AP rounds have damage reduced by 2 pips, but armor is halved.

another issue is that the real world SAPI (standard armor piercing insert) plates and their improved versions are only rated for a certain number of rounds. meaning after a certain number of rounds have hit the armor in a specific area, usually around 3-6" in diameter, the plate is no longer effective in that area. the current us army ceramic SAPI plates turn into a pile if ceramic bits when they reach their limit, which i then pretty much a bag of bits hovering around the lower abdomen region.

Don't know how many of you have worn any kind of armor before, but I would imagine many people don't realize that in bulletproof vests there's a small insert that covers/protects the heart. Rather than ceramic (as it sounds like the military uses), for law enfocement it's often solid metal. So while most of the vest might be kevlar, it's actually solid steel (or the like) that protects the heart.
