Somehow I don't think this is tongue-in-cheek. I read another article about this on the NYT website.
The original article I linked to in the OP cited the NYT, so I assumed it was not meant humorously. I did read the original article but what was cited sounded rather whiny to me for a multi-millionare adult.

When I'm a multi-millionare, I'll pay you not to notice that I'm whiny.

PM me or post an announcement here on the Pit and I will provide a name and address for the check or better yet, send me your credit card information and bank routing data and I will arrange the payment myself. Wink

Psh. When I am a multi-millionaire, I won't care whether anyone thinks I am whiny or not. In fact, I may even pay other people to whine for me while I relax on a beach somewhere. And if I hear people complain that I'm whiny, I'll just sit down and read my bank statements until I feel better again.

What if I think you're whiny without money? Razz

LMAO! Well, as the Joker said, if you're good at something, never do it for free. Guess that just means I'll have to find a way to get paid to whine. Maybe Lucas is hiring... Wink

Haha! I have, only because I'm such a huge fan of John Boorman. And the scary thing is that isn't even his worst film. Next to Exorcist II, Zardoz is Citizen Kane.

But regardless, watching Sean Connery dressed in highwayman boots and a diaper makes Zardoz more entertaining that anything from Episodes I-III.

A few years back, TheForce.net had a contest to cast the EU. The overwhelming favorite to play Thrawn was Jeremy Irons.

I saw Zardoz in the theater when it first came out. I've really got to disagree with you on this one. It took me years to get that image out of my head. Since you put it back with this recollection let me share this with you ... look at Sean Connery in Zardoz and then say in your best Sean Connery accent, "the name is Bond, James Bond." Shocked I swear, it's enough to make me want Roger Moore back as James Bond. Rolling Eyes

I'm happy to see, or rather hear, Jeremy Irons playing anything. I think he may be a little old by the purely theoretical time the movie would get made, but I certainly wouldn't be unsatisfied to see him in that role.

I looked up the reference. They even have a pic of Irons with blue skin and red eyes here: http://theforce.net/jedicouncil/castingcall/thrawn.asp

They've castes a few others from the EU as well, including the Solo kids and Captain Pellaeon.

Oooh, Irons would be great for Thrawn.

A younger Irons would fit the bill nicely, yes. I might favor Daniel Craig over even a younger Jeremy Irons, though. They're both great actors.

I just wish George would have read his own biography from 1982 or 1983 before he did the second trilogy (or all his updates on the others.)

A couple things he said back then that he forgot over the years:
-All the special effects in the world mean nothing without a good story behind them.
-I know I can't write dialogue. That's why I hire someone else to fix it.

I can't believe the same man who said those things made the 2nd trilogy.
