Yeah, I'm with ZZaph on this one.
I would think that Technically skilled slaves are the only exception. One doesn't want slaves that are too knowledgeable, or too combat oriented, otherwise they may rebel against you.

It's Galaxy Guide 11: Criminal Orginizations (pages 44-45) that may be a big help on slaver mentality. It's not about life is cheap, this particular Galaxy Guide suggests that slavers don't see slaves as intelligent living beings but just as objects or trainable beasts. Dehumanize, for lack of a better word covering all species of potential slaves, the slaves and have slavers acting more like their selling a car or a fridge, or a computer, a horse, or a dog, or something like that.

Edit: A thought on price. You may want to add the price of a restrain device to the cost of the slaves as the slavers may have to turn the slaves over with the restrain device still in place so they'd have to add in such costs. After all, it wouldn't do to have someone buy a Wookiee and take the collar off only to have it over power and kill both it's new "master" and the slaver selling it. Galaxy Guide 9: Fragments of the Rim lists as one of the pirate groups in it the Thalassian Slavers who are both slavers and pirates. For the typical Thalassian Slaver as having a slave collar and three pairs of binders among their equipment. Gry's Equipment PDF lists binders at 50 creds and a slave collar with director unit at 10,000 creds (though it does mention you get one controller and 10 collars for that cost). There's also the Thalassian security collar listed at 1,000 creds in the PDF. So maybe a slave only costs 950 but the slaver charges 2,000 creds for a slave wearing binders, 1,000 for the cost of the slave and binders and another 1,000 for profit.

Also GG9 does bring up skills as being important to the price of a slave as the Thalassians like to capture ship's crewers with useful skills who fetch a high price on the open market.
