One of my best friends is taking a SCUBA course in college so he can dive, and was suggesting I do the same. Anyone know how much it would cost (in the US) to go through the training and such?

I charge R1800 per course so depending on what you want to do. I would say in US it should be between $250 - $400 depending on what they include in the course. I suggest doing at least PADI Open Water & PADI Advanced Open Water courses - www.padi.com

That's not bad at all...I'll have to find out how much gear is though.  My friend and I were hoping to dive some of the old shipwrecks off the NC coast next spring if I do go ahead and get certified.
