Is there a generally accepted house rule regarding the Conversion of Consumables space or from Cargo space?

I'll give an example of what I mean.

Two crews both want to purchase stock YV-560 light freighters.
Wookiepedia says: YV-560 freighters had room for 5 passengers and 2 crew, with approximately 40 tons of cargo space and enough food storage for 8 months

One Crew plans on prolonged exploration to the Unknown territory, plotting out new Hyperspace routes so they are going to be away from the core worlds for a while, almost a year, so they plan to fill the Cargo space as an extended consumables space for food, medicine, water. etc.

The Other crew are more your typical Tramp freighter crew and they don't plan to go as far out. Mostly short trips. They plan to increase their profit margin by decreasing the consumables space to increase cargo space.

My question, as I said is there already a conversion rate rule that would allow you to trade off some consumables space.

Say 1 Months worth of consumables is worth X amount of cargo tonnage.

It's all a theoretical question, and in theoretical questions, one can leave out
certain factors and logistics aside.

I know that buying a Yt-1300 would mean 100 tons of cargo and 2 months of consumables space. Also buying a used Yt-1300 would be cheaper, probably.

Yes, this can certainly work. “D6 space“, and “D6 spaceships“ lists the weight and space various kinds of food takes up in the ship. It’s not much but you could put auxiliary storage into use as payload and you can store additional food in your cargo hold. In my campaign, I would allow that. The only consideration would be if some of this additional food required refrigeration. Cargo holds can be modified for refrigerated freight so it would just depend on what kind of food you were putting in the hold.
