Game Notes: One of the more interesting features of a Star Galleon is the cargo hold. Placed in the very center of the craft, the hold is actually a separate vessel that can detach and be jettisoned into hyperspace for collection at a later time. A built-in homing device allows Imperial agents to track the hold as it randomly jumps across the hyperlanes.

Capsule: Piracy! An enduring problem despite the breakneck pace of production of Arrestor cruisers and the early successes of the first generation Star Galleons, the galaxy has an abundance of scum willing to commit acts of piracy. Pirate gangs, organized crime, Separatist Holdouts and more. To better combat these threats, a bold collaboration was proposed. Kuat Drive Yards, Kylix Engineering and Sigiltech Systems were brought together in a joint initiative to re-engineer the Star Galleon from the keel up. Optimizing efficiency in nearly every system & aspect of ship operations, greatly increased reactor power, sublight speed, crew quality, additional weapons, improved sensors & navigation.
Many of these innovations would be carried over to other ships in the fleet, in what would become the Sigil Doctrine.
Additionally, Kylix Engineering and Sigiltech Systems were allowed to build & sell Star Galleons for the Empire & approved corporate or political entities.

I Likey. Though on that 'the cargo bay jetisons into hyperspace.. HOW Does it ever get out?

In the old WEG art it shows launching from the aft end, but from re-reading the info & thinking about it, i believe it jumps to hyperspace from inside the ship. It doesn't have to move in realspace.
While the Star Galleon has mass, it isn't massive enough to have its own mass shadow. IOW, as long as the Star Galleon isn't in a gravity well, the cargo hold can just go. There may be 'launch shunt' that boots it into hyperspace then its own hyperdrive & nav comp can take over.
