Heck, human skin provides a similar, if less sensitive, effect. Like how you can feel the heat of a hot fire from dozens of feet away. I recall seeing a warehouse burn down from 50 or so yards away, and the heat was intense.

And what were you doing 50 yards away from a burning warehouse?

Well, I was 5y/o at the time, so I’d say to ask my father why were in the area, but he is permanently unavailable on account of being dead for 20+ years. However, I do distinctly recall multiple fire trucks were on scene by the time we got there, so the actual event occurred long before we arrived.

Gotcha. I'm sure you just stopped to watch the spectacle.

Well into adulthood, I carried this vivd memory of there being a huge forest fire in the neighborhood I lived in when I was 3-4. At my mom and step-dad's house one time something the conversation sparked that memory and I asked Mom, "Remember that forest fire in our neighborhood when I was 3? It was at night and I remember watching it from the sidewalk by myself." My mom replied, "That never happened. Think about what you just said." And then I realized, why would I be outside by myself at night at that age? Since she had no memory of there even being a fire, I must have dreamed it. I can still remember watching the huge fire, from what seemed to be about 30-40 yards away.

I have no feeling of heat in my memory. Not even like the many bonfires I've been to. I imagine that feeling of a large fire would be very memorable. So unlike your memory, mine was only a dream. (Unless I astrally projected myself to somewhere else where there was a real fire.)
