It doesn’t really meet the definition of a missile, though. I reserve Missile Weapons for self-propelled solid objects, not sprays of gas or liquid. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. I could see that.. Would also include 'super-soakers!' |
Sure, in the same sense that Firearms would cover Airsoft or Paintball guns.
You may laugh, but picture a “Supersoaker” loaded with acid or a contact nerve agent. _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. It's expected that you will make up new rules to suit the needs of your game." - The Star Wars Roleplaying Game, 2R&E, pg. 69, WEG, 1996.

Sorry if I've missed the point. |
The initial question was what WEG sourcebooks have the flamethrower skill. That's it. The rest is just the some additional discussion about the skill. _________________ *

Hence why i mentioned it.. Had a kid pc on a table i was a player (running a brash pilot, Y-wing specialist), who took a super-soaker with him, filled with contact nerve agent.. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

Sounds fun. Under my house rules, a continuous spray weapon would qualify for a pretty high Auto-Fire rating; I wonder how that would stack with dosing for the nerve agent... _________________ "No set of rules can cover every situation. IIRC the Dm had it as a 4d base damage (resist via stamina, not base strength), +1d each round you kept spraying the target. For the soaker itself, 25 shots, 12/24/35 range was what he had it set at.. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |

See above in the thread for some links to other flamethrower rules, stats, and discussions...

To update, I've done some more research on the official skill and thought I would document it to expand upon the info already in this thread. As far as I can tell, the dedicated flamethrower skill never appeared in any 1e publication. A flamethrower was fluffed to be in Boba Fett's armor, but a Dexterity skill called armored weapons was statted and presumably used to fire it.
As far as I can tell, the Dexterity skill called flamethrower first appeared in Bossk's stats in The Movie Trilogy Sourcebook, 1993 (his 1e stats in GG 3 did not have it). The stats for Bossk's "flamethrower" only indicate "4D" (damage). Not long after that book's release was the Han Solo and the Corporate Sector Sourcebook, which included weapon stats that required this skill (p.117-18) and a gladiator droid's stats with this Dexterity skill (p.131). More flamethrower weapon stats which required this skill appeared in Rules of Engagement: The Rebel SpecForce Handbook (1997).

I agree that flamethrowers should be in a separate category from both missile and energy weapons. I have thusly updated my skill list to rename this skill flame/spray weapons, which follows nicely from my blaster/energy weapons skill. _________________ *

FWIW, you can add Gundark's Fantastic Technology - Personal Gear as another source for flame weapons. Pages 23-24 list some under the category of 'Flame Projection and Sonic Weapons' as a category. Though both of these are grouped together, the skill listed for the flame weapons is "Flame-thrower" and the sonic weapons are listed as Blaster: sound [weapon]. _________________ Currently Running: Villains & Vigilantes (a 32-year-old campaign with multiple groups) and D6 Star Wars; mostly on hiatus are Adventures in Middle-earth and Delta Green |

My group was just discussing the "Flame Thrower" skill. We are slowly working back to 1e after the 2e skill explosion. (We all have had the blue book since high school.)
We kinda compromised and put it on "armor weapons" since only the Bounty Hunter is using it on his gauntlet. But I feel like we kicked the can down the road. |

Did you roll a melee check, or 'missile' weapons for kicking that can? _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
