Okay, here we go again:

Character 0D
Cycle +2D
Speeder +4D
Starfighter +6D
Starship +7D*
Walker +8D
Capital Ship +10D
Dreadnought +14D
Death Star +24D

I think I'm going to give the adjusted scale values a try in my upcoming game, if/when it gets started.

After watching through The Clone Wars and Attack of the Clones where we see Walkers taking out Capital Scale ships with relative ease, it makes sense that according to sources on screen, they are much closer in offensive/defensive capabilities than RAW would suggest.

Thanks for putting so much time into this crmcneill!

Excellent. I haven't had a chance to playtest it yet, so let me know how it works out.

Would the Eclipse or Soverign count as DS scale or Dreadnought scale?

Pursuant to this, I've found it necessary to better divide and classify Starfighter and Capital Scale Weaponry, along with making some changes to basic range:
    Starfighter-Scale
    Laser Cannon: 1-3/12/25
Ion Blaster (replaces SF-Scale Ion Cannon): 1-3/7/16

    Capital Ship-Scale
    Turbolaser 2-10/25/50
    Ion Cannon 1-6/14/32

    Dreadnought-Scale
    Heavy Turbolaser: 3-15/35/75
    Heavy Ion Cannon: 1-10/25/50
It will require altering several stats for Capital Ship Scale, but since I've already rewritten a majority of the WEG stats for my own use, I'm not too worried about it. In addition, shortening the ranges for the Capital Scale weaponry also alleviates the issue of Capital Ships having weapons that equal or outrange their own sensors in some cases.

Why not just bump the sensor range?

A lot of reasons. Primarily, I've never entirely liked the way WEG did the ranges for ion cannon. A Starfighter-Scale ion cannon outranges a laser cannon by over 50%, whereas a Capital-Scale turbolaser outranges a CS-Scale ion cannon by 50%. Adjusting the cannon ranges addresses this problem.

Okay, so, this topic seems to be in a state of constant re-edit as I keep chewing it over. I'm considering another juggle of the lower end of the spectrum, although I haven't quite reached the point of actually doing it yet. The part I'm more certain about, however, is changing a few of the category names to use only words featured in the films, such as Speeder, Walker, Fighter, Transport, etc. The big change would be Capital Ship, which is never used in the films, while Frigate, Cruiser and Destroyer are. I still haven't nailed down any specifics at this point, but I would appreciate input if this is something that interests you.

After due consideration, I've decided to stick with the previously posted modifiers, but fold space transports back in with starfighters scale-wise. However, I've decided to change all of the names for the scale categories to terminology used in the films (wherever possible):
    Character 0D
    Flitter +2D
    Speeder +4D
    Starship +6D
    Walker +8D
    Frigate +10D
    Destroyer +14D
    Death Star +24D
So, the explanations are as follows:
Flitter - Despite their similarity, speeder bikes and the like just don't fit the literal definition of a cycle. I couldn't find anything in the films that actually fit (they're never actually called swoops or speeder bikes in the films), but the Brian Daley novels used Flitter to describe small one- or two-being repulsorlift vehicles. It was as good a fit as any, and more general in application than "swoop" (which would technically be a sub-class of flitters anyway)

Starship - I was never entirely comfortable with a separate classification for freighters and transports at only 1D removed from starfighters, so I decided to group them back under a single, general category that covered fighters, freighters, shuttles, etc, all at once.

Frigate - "Capital Ship" is never actually used in the films (and is applied too broadly in the games), but frigates are mentioned a single time in ROTJ (during the Battle of Endor).

Destroyer - The words "destroyer" and "cruiser" are both used in the films to refer to the big, powerful capital ships. However, since my current system places WEG's light, medium and heavy cruisers in Frigate scale, I went with destroyer to avoid confusion. It is important to note that, while the real world use of destroyer refers to something roughly the same basic size as a frigate, the SWU uses it to refer to something more along the lines of a Dreadnaught (basically a super battleship).

To clarify, here is the revised list of what-goes-where:

Destroyer:
-Super Star Destroyer
-Imperial Star Destroyer
-Victory Star Destroyer
-Torpedo Sphere
-Mon Calamari Cruiser

Frigate:
-Dreadnaught-Class Cruiser
-Alliance Assault Cruiser
-Interdictor
-Strike Cruiser
-Escort Carrier
-Carrack Light Cruiser
-Alliance Bulk Carrier
-Star Galleon
-Nebulon B Frigate
-Lancer-Class Frigate
-Corellian Corvette
-Corellian Gunship
-System Patrol Craft
-Assault Shuttle
-Blastboat
-Luxury Liner
-Container Ship
-Bulk Transport
-Medium Transport

Walker:
-AT-AT
-Juggernaut
-Mobile Command Base
-Chariot Command Speeder
-Hoverscout
-Alliance Freerunner
-Heavy Tracker
-Speeder Truck
-Sail Barge

Starship:
-Light Freighters
-Space Barges
-All starfighter types
-Cloud Cars

Speeder:
-AT-ST
-Landspeeders
-Airspeeders
-Compact Assault Vehicle
-ULAV
-Tramp Shuttle
-Skiff

Flitter:
-Speeder Bikes
-Swoops
-Repulsor Sled

Love it.

Officially adopted. (Except for the name 'Flitter'. ugh! I'll call that scale 'Bike' or something. )

Yeah, I'm not hugely satisfied with it either, yet there are no other terms used in the films to describe bike-sized vehicles. The closest we get is in ROTJ, where the bike scouts capture Leia, and the leader tells the other to "go get your ride; take her back to base." "Swoop" might be a good alternate, as it has gained something of an official status.

Because "bike" is a derivative of "bicycle", which essentially means " two wheels", and since none of the vehicle's in question have wheels, IMO, a different slang term is appropriate.

But star wars does use a lot of terms that are earth-derived. They just shamelessly appropriate it with a wink and a nudge.

To US bike came from bicycle. But to them it could have a completely different etymology. Smile

I just popped onto Wookieepedia to check up on the canonicity of Speederbike...and lo and behold they say Speeder bike is also known as a 'jump speeder'.

Kinda cool.
