That's what you get when a bunch of Verpins put their hands on a tramp shuttle.

Note: Serving on this ship means that PC functions in a very random environment, where things work as they should, rarely work better or do not work at all. Ship itself is a curiosity and might be an interesting background for one or more adventures, however I do not recommend her as a primary starship for PCs.
History: She was designed for some remote planetary system in limited number of around hundred vessels. One of the ships was purchased by a team of Verpins for their research/explore missions. Verpins adapted one of smaller holds for their hive (next to lounge), and another for a warehouse (next to crew cabins) – full of bits and pieces useful for their research and prototypes. Lab is located on the stern next to engine room. It is because of their persistent urge for making things better, they have done a lot of improvements and upgrades, many from which do not operate as they were planned to. It only motivated Verpins for further research. Most of the ship systems have open covers with plates and wires easy accessible for engineers. The whole crew, which counted around 30 Verpins was grouped into task teams, which were responsible for upgrading different systems of the ship. The process of creating improvements is often more interesting to Verpins than the final outcome itself, so quite often they ceased to work on some improvement because they reached the point when they had all the necessary solutions to all research problems, and simply did not want to waste time for simple but still time consuming work. In the end, almost all ship systems have some level of uncertainty as it goes to their reliability.
Verpins lost their ship when they got accidentally involved into feud between corporations. Their whereabouts remain unknown.
Characters may find her abandoned aside of some remote space port.

The production was ceased after one contract, and afterwards there was no interest in such a type of ships, which by many pilots were treated as very strange and useless construction.

Shape: She resembles a long necked bird with folded wings. she has a flattened barrel-like hull and a long arched neck jutting from top of stem, finished with tilted down sphere-shaped gyroscopic cockpit (rotating sphere inside larger semitransparent sphere). The barrel-like hull itself has about 30 m plus additional 2 m for engine outlets in stern. In the fore, the “neck” has around 13 m (which actually is a corridor with two bulkheads at its ends), finished at the far end with cockpit sphere, which has about 5 m diameter. The neck has servomechanisms which allow to raise or lower it, so the cockpit may find itself above the hull or below the hull. This actually allows the cockpit crew to see what is above, behind or below the ship. Two man cockpit sphere is also an escape pod (cockpit functions as an escape pod for the crew, but not for gunners and passengers).

Configuration: She has two decks (main deck and upper deck). Looking from stem towards stern, she has symmetrical arrangement of rooms along the longitudinal axis of the ship. Main deck consists of two small cargo holds (with order numbers 3 and 4) located next to ship’s sides and adjacent to them lounge and crew cabins which are separated with the main deck corridor. Next there are two main cargo holds, behind them smaller engine room and medical room. The upper deck consists of pentra, caboose, washroom, captain’s and astrogator’s cabins (adjacent to corridor) in the bow section and Oxygen/life support systems room, and maintenance (droids service, storage room) adjacent to corridor in the stern section. Access to cockpit is only possible through upper deck via long corridor. Access to holds is possible via hatches from adjacent ship’s side. Two larger holds have additional ramps giving access to them from bottom of the ship.

Craft: Verp.11.111.
Type: modified tramp shuttle
Scale: space transport, 50 m
Skill: space transport: Verp.11.111.
Crew: 2, gunners: 7
Passengers: 4
Cargo Capacity: 135 metric tons, 55 m3
Consumables: 2 months
Cost: at current state of improvements - 30 000; if ever fully operational (however not likely) – 150 000
Hyperdrive multiplier: x1
Roll 1D6 while entering hyperspace:
1-will burn out and may go to garbage,
2-3 will not jump into hyperspace,
4-6 operates properly

Hyperdrive backup: x10
Roll 1D6 when using backup:
1-will burn out,
2-3 that will not work,
4- that will work as x12,
5 operates properly as x10,
6- that will work as x6

Maneuverability: 1D
Roll 2D6 when maneuvering:
2x 1 on D6 – operates as 0D,
2x 6 on D6 – operates as 2D,
for all other results operates as normal 1D

Space: 6;
Atmosphere: 330; 950 kmh
Hull: 4D

Shields: 3D
Roll 1D6 when using Shields:
1-2 works as 1D,
3- works as 2D,
4-5 operates properly,
6 – works as 5D,

Sensors:
Passive: 30/2D;
Scan: 60/3D;
Search: 90/5D;
Focus:4/4D+1;

Weapons: 7x Double laser cannon
After each shot roll 1D6. If you get 1 on the die - the cannon becomes jammed for 3 rounds; if it happens three times in a row, the cannon is broken and requires general repair by Verpins; to speed up the game you can make one cumulative roll for all used cannons.
Fire arc: (1) front, (1) mid-port upper turret , (1) mid-port bottom turret, (1) mid-starboard upper turret, (1) mid-starboard bottom turret, (1) stern-port turret, (1) stern-starboard turret
Skill: Starship gunnery
Space range: 1-3/12/25
Atmosphere range: 100-300 m/1,2km/2,5km
Damage: 5D (boosted from 4D)

I was always under the impression that the Verpine were exceptionally gifted technicians. Their engineering was something highly sought after.

In my SWU, a super quirky ship would probably be something repaired by Jawas. In fact, Jawa-rigging was the term we've always used for patchwork upgrades and repairs instead of Jury-rigging.

I agree about Jury-rigging by Jawas and superb technology of Verpins. However, in this case, Verpins did not create the ship, they just purchased her and had a lot of time aboard to wonder, examine, disassemble, reassemble, modify, upgrade. I mean about 30 child-like bored Verpins, who get excited whenever new technological problem arises. Probably, like children, they have so many ideas at once that they jump from one task to another, always curious to the point they know all the answers.
If above interpretation does not fit your idea of Verpins, you can just assume, that they had so many orders from well-paying clients for equipment customization and upgrades, that they only modified their ship in a very limited free time and never did finish.
I have followed the general description in Star Wars Galaxy Guide 4, Alien Races, p. 91-93:
Page 91:
The Verpine also have a highly developed curiosity regarding all things technological, leading them do disassemble, reassemble, modify and duplicate that come within their reach.
Page 92:
The Verpine are innate experts in nearly every field of technology, and continue to have a child-like sense of wonder where machinery is concerned.
The single drawback to the employment of a Verpine technician lies in the fact that it will often, if not always, be involved in making unauthorized “improvements” to the equipment being maintained. While these improvements are often quite useful, they sometimes hold unpleasant surprises. (Unsatisfied customers will occasionally make accusations of sabotage regarding the effect of these surprises).

Page 93:
Insist upon examining any unusual piece of technology they encounter. After expressing their wonder at the ingenuity of the item, they invariably offer to make it work better.
