I'm having some high-ranking KDY personnel arriving at the same planet as the PC's, for an Important Meeting. I'm thinking a civilian and somewhat upgraded/luxurious version of a KDY ship. The question is, which one? One problem is that most KDY ship are either huge warships or ugly, bulky cargo ships.

So far I have two candidates, the Vigil-class corvette http://fractalsponge.net/?p=3229

and the Starwind-class transport http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Starwind-class_pleasure_yacht

I'm really not sure how big of a ship the KDY executives would take, but a point for choosing a fairly big ship is to make a statement (we are a huge construction site, and we make bad @$$ ships). The prime purpose for the ship in this adventure is to give the PCs a Clue that KDY, the Empire and another company is planning something together.

Any other cool KDY-ships that could be relevant? Is it ridiculous to bring a corvette to a meeting?

How about Kuat Leisure's 121-B yacht?

Throw a frigate or two in there as escort ships, and you're good to go?

Hard to picture high-ranking KDY officials traveling on ships that small and vulnerable. Per the EU, KDY has their own corporate fleet of armed capital ships. Truly high-ranking officials would be more likely to travel on something cruiser or star cruiser grade.

Not to mention their positions as VIPs to the Imperial War effort might even garner them a nice state room aboard a Star Destroyer.

Ah nice, I did consider the 121, but couldn't find a picture of it, thanks!
But considering McNeill and Ravens comments, I think maybe the corvette might be suitable. They could travel with the Star Destroyer, but I want the players to notice that some important KDY folks are visiting.
Is there any info on KDY ships regarding colours, markings etc somewhere?

Here's an alternate possibility:

Image

Image

This is an alternate version of the Star Destroyer, as drawn up by AdamKop over on DeviantArt. I found it on an image search a while back and thought it bore enough resemblance to Imperial Star Destroyers as to be a KDY product, while still being visually distinct (and heavily armed) to serve as a KDY corporate fleet cruiser. There isn't much to go on scale-wise, so up to a point you can make it as big or as small as needed.

I kinda dig the way that ship looks. Will the director of engineering be cooking up some stats for a Corvette/Frigate version of it?

Possibly, but I'm focusing mostly on the stats for fractalsponge's Broadsword at the moment. If Straxus is interested, it might shift my priorities a little.

Thanks, that's also an interesting option. TBH I struggle to see the resemblance to the Star Destroyers, although that's not really important.

Fractalsponges rendering of the Vigil-class is a big reason I want to use it Very Happy Shocked
The ship will play a background role, so having the stats is not really that important, but I appreciate the offer, CRMcNeill Smile

Looking forward to seeing your take on the Broadsword!

well depending on how high up the ladder the executives are, their ship(s) could be completely custom one off original creations with a small fleet of escort ships. the ship(s) in question will probably be a reflection of the executives that use/own them and of the comapny that made them. one also has to think about the statement the executives might be wanting to make to whomever theyre meeting. so unless theyre trying to be discrete odds are theyre going to be displaying as much of their company's power and capabilities. basically showing off who they are and what their company is capable of doing.

Well, the Vigil is on my list of things to do, but I'm somewhat hung up on how I want to fit it into the SWU. At 254 meters, it's more of a frigate than a corvette, but it's armed like a corvette. I have some vague ideas of how to work with it, but I haven't really nailed it down to my liking yet.

Right now my premise is using the Star Corvette designation to represent a ship that is designed to perform the mission of a corvette, but with the added endurance of a larger ship, allowing it to perform extended missions or operate with heavier fleet units, like Star Destroyer task forces, without needing to stop and replenish as often as a regular Corvette. I've already sort-of used this with my Ecliptic-Class Star Frigate (which is sized like a light cruiser, but mounts a Frigate's armament). I just haven't quite worked out how it will fit into the worldview overall.

Excactly, and here they are trying to show of a bit, but not too much... A custom, one-off ship makes sense, but the main purpose of the ship in this situation is to be a Clue as to what company they are from.

easy fix, company logo can be on the ship somewhere. cant make it too easy for your players, but cant make it too obvious either.

There's another possible issue. In Imperial service, a Vigil would normally carry a squadron of TIE fighters with two shuttles (per fractalsponge, a DX-19 stormtrooper transport and a light shuttle, like his Mu-Class), but the TIEs and the shuttle are both Seinar Fleet Systems products, not KDY. There's a strong possibility that KDY would -out of a sense of pride - outfit their own Vigil with their own brand of fighters. Except that there are no known KDY fighters from this era. Or shuttles, for that matter. The only KDY fighter in the WEG material is the A-9 Vigilance from Dark Empire, but it was brand new seven years after Endor.

Now, there was a KDY subsidiary, Kuat Systems Engineering, that produced starfighters, but the only official vehicles on that list are the Delta-7 Aethersprite (Obi-Wan's fighter from AotC) and the Cloakshape Fighter, neither of which is front-line material by the time of the classic trilogy.

It's possible a VIP transport might not carry fighters at all, with the quarters for the air wing personnel removed to make way for larger VIP suites, but there would still be a need for shuttle craft of some kind.

Sorry I don't have more answers.
