I would like to introduce some kind of low-level Inquisitor type NPC, one that is trying to track down and capture/kill remaining Jedi (or at least find them and report back to someone strong enough to take them out).

I think it would be interesting to have a non-force user, but I'm not sure what abilities/equipment he or she would need. Anyone have any ideas, or know about something similar in novels or otherwise? I guess perhaps an alien with Force-sensing abilities could work.

Personality would be a mix between the bureaucrat in Ghostbusters and Karrin Murphy in Dresden Files.

If you're going to send a non-Force-wielder after Jedi, then he needs to be at least as badass as Boba Fett. Any Jedi who survived the purge are NOT going to be easy to find and will DEFINITELY NOT be easy to kill. And if he's not a combat badass, then his only other option is to overwhelm the Jedi with sheer numbers. That means having at least a fair number of troops on his side. Needless to say, that's going to be a logistical headache if the number of troops is large enough and the more troops there are, the harder they become to conceal and hide.

And a bureaucrat (who by implication sits at a desk job and doesn't go into the field) doesn't seem like the best choice to go after combat-experienced Jedi. While the idea of a character with Walter Peck's personality (I never saw Dresden Files so I can't comment on Karrin Murphy) being a Jedi Hunter seems good on paper, you have to remember that Walter Peck was a Smug Snake who was way overzealous about his job and had no idea how the Ghostbusters' equipment worked or what the consequences of messing with it would be. That sounds like a fairly easy personality for a Jedi to manipulate into a trap, so such a Jedi Hunter wouldn't be very scary or formidable. A guy like that wouldn't be able to compete with Inquisitors like the Seventh Sister or the Fifth Brother (although maybe he could compete with the Eighth Brother) and definitely wouldn't be able to hold a candle to the Grand Inquisitor.

Now, if he was just scouting out Jedi suspects on remote worlds (and they'd have to be remote because no Jedi would dare hide out anywhere near to the Core Worlds and the other more densely populated galactic regions because of the heightened Imperial presence there), then it would be more likely that he would keep a low profile and make discreet inquiries rather than throw his weight around and "flash his badge" like Walter Peck liked to do in Ghostbusters. This is even more likely if he's acting as a point man for higher-ranked and more powerful Jedi Hunters like full Inquisitors. After all, there's no reason to give the hiding Jedi any advance warning by being the typical Imperial pompous @$$ and yelling "HEY, HAVE ANY OF YOU BACKWATER RUBES SEEN ANY JEDI AROUND HERE??? ASKING FOR A FRIEND."

I think this idea needs more development but I don't see it as workable just yet.

with a few minor tweeks the following templates can be used for your purposes, or at least give you an idea of what skills would be appropriate.

Stun grenades, if they expect to take the Jedi alive. Anything that operates on an area of effect (can't be blocked by a jedi), and, preferably, puts bystanders in at least some danger (so the Jedi is forced to protect them).

A Miraluka might be a neat one... almost human enough for the Imperials, but with the advantage of Force Sight to pick out Jedi. Or, perhaps your fully human Jedi-hunter keeps a Miraluka on a leash?

Or alternatively he finds them using skills like Streetwise and Investigation but he doesn't go up against them personally. Instead he directs others to set up an ambush or trap to catch the Jedi. The ISB Investigations Specialist template that thedemonapostle provided could work as a template for the hunter. The Imperial Dungeoneers from the Dark Empire Sourcebook (page 41-42) and for a really high powered campaign the Veteran Dungeoneer from page 79 of the Star Wars Ultimate NPC Collection, could be the people who have to go up against the Jedi.

That's not a fix. Jango lasted about 5 seconds. Maybe you meant General Grievous. Laughing

A sonic weapon, or something else that cannot be blocked by lightsabers.

A ysalamiri backpack, like the ones Thrawn created in the original Zahn trilogy.

A suit of power armor, to be able to take on a Jedi one-on-one.

Good investigation skills.

A combination of all 3 would be pretty killer.

If in an era after thrawn, i could see the Ysalmari backpack.. BUT no way in a Rise of the empire/rebellion campaign..

I could also see him using weapons that like those sonic ones, do not allow the lightsaber to block it.. such as spray weapons (Deck sweepers, shotguns) or if it does block it, it can't be redirected back (other firearms, missiles, bows).

Everyone knows that, in order to take on a Jedi one-on-one, you just need jet boots and a really nice hat.

Thanks guys, some good ideas and thoughts here. I know I wrote "jedi" hunter, but I meant force-users in general. Someone that my low-level pc's can worry about, but not an uber-sith-lord type.

An imperial officer with a special mandate and security clearance, perhaps working directly for a high inquisitor, or Vader. Someone that are aware and knowledgeable about force powers, and a couple of tricks to deal with low-level threats.

For those that haven't read the Dresden Files (you should Wink ) Karrin Murphy is a mundane human cop, that battles with supernatural bad guys on a regular basis.

Ysalamiri were known about during the Clone Wars, and were the reason clones could be grown so fast.

While this is still Legends, as far as I know, it was alluded to on Kamino when they told Obi-Wan that if he wants more clones that they will need more time.

They were known about before the Clone Wars, because the Jedi avoided this planet, which made it a haven for criminals and smugglers. It is an inner rim world, so it was likely settled by the Republic millenia ago.

I wouldn't make it starting gear, but a quest reward.

I think you are misremembering AotC. Jango did very well against Obi-Wan in an exciting action sequence on Kamino. And Jango lasted more than 5 seconds on Geonisis. Compare that to what Boba getting his @ss handed to him in a slapstick demise much closer to 5 seconds. Heck, Boba was more badass as a little kid than he was in his death movie.

Let me guess, all that is coming from the clone wars cartoon...
