LOL. There are men at my office who know no difference. 30 year old men who have never not had a phone in their adult years, first with a blackberry or similar phone, then with the smartphones over the last decade.

They look at my flip phone (it's a slide phone with a full keyboard) in wonder and pity.

I laugh.

I used to have a flip phone and I found it profoundly disappointing. Not once did the phrase "Scotty, beam me up" garner a helpful response.

To randomly generate a dice result with a flip phone:
1). Throw it against the wall as hard as you can.

2). Repeat as needed until phone breaks.

3). Number of throws = randomly generated dice roll.

4). Go buy a smart phone.

I don't usually do pre-rolls, but I did it a fair bit in an old campaign that focused on swoop racing.

The larger races, with a lot of NPC competitors, I found it easier to make all the NPC rolls ahead of time, so I knew where everyone would be round by round, right down to the winning placements.

Then at game time, the PCs were the only random element. Went much quicker/ fast paced.

Exactly. Whether it is a swoop race or a space battle the players don't want to watch me roll a bunch of dice for each of the NPCs, but as a GM I like figuring out how the NPCs perform based on stats and rolls rather than some whim or notion of my own. So pre-rolling makes lots of sense for these sorts of situations.

It also makes sense to do so for certain other things.. Like say you are having a competition the PC's are entering.. 5 npcs also are running.. IT has say 3 running rolls, 2 climbing rolls, 2 jumping rolls, 2 acrobatic rolls, and 3 swimming rolls for every participant..
It makes SENSE to have those rolls done ahead of time for the NPCs, and you can then just compare #s with what the PC(s) roll IN GAME, to see "who's out in front"..

I find that when I do pre-rolls, I tend to ignore them. Very Happy
