This. Yes, Han Solo has plenty of comedic moments but he is in no way a comedic figure. Think about his first Establishing Character Moment back in ANH. Depending on the version you like, he's a guy who shot dead a thug either in self-defense (because Greedo fired first...yeech) or pragmatically blew away a thug who had him at gunpoint and was dumb enough to let Han's hands out of sight (Yes, Lucas, Han shot first). That wasn't a comedic moment at all
"Sorry about the mess." <ching> was funny.

But I take your point and agree with it. Han Solo is not and never has been like C-3PO or Jar Jar Binks.

Could this movie suck? Sure, and the loss of the directors isn't a good sign.

I will fully admit I am already eating crow considering they replaced the first directors with Ron Howard.

I don't know anything about Ron Howard except that he used to be in the Happy Days TV show and has a longstanding rep as a successful director. Yeah, I'm breathing a sigh of relief myself after hearing this news.

Cocoon is my favorite Ron Howard-directed film.

On a separate note, maybe this film shouldn't be made when those two bozos that were fired were trying to turn the Han Solo standalone into another "21 Jumpstreet" comedic film, and the principle photography was less than 3 weeks from completion.

I see no reason why it shouldn't be made at all, but it will probably be delayed. I don't like December Star Wars movies but it would be better than it sucking.

I don't care what part of the year it comes out, and the last two Star Wars movies came out in December, so having the next two also come out in December doesn't bother me. Me, I take the Blizzard Entertainment view of their video games with this: "It'll be ready when it's ready." But yeah, like Whill, my primary concern is that it doesn't suck whenever it does come out.

In all honesty, I, too, am bored with the "small universe" concept. When I found out that TCW cartoon series centered around Anakin and Obi-Wan, I felt like a major opportunity was wasted to EXPAND the SWU, rather than compress it.

Whill is right: it can't ruin what already is. But focusing on the same characters too much will almost certainly reduce the sense o vastness in the SWU.

The Clone Wars series, from about Season 3 onward, really gives the spotlight to a lot of tertiary and/or completely new characters, and it is with those storylines that the series is strongest. The early seasons' Anakin/Obi-Wan focus is indeed a lot of wasted opportunity, but the show does move well beyond that.

Will someone at least post D6 stats for Ron Howard, or D6 rules for replacing a GM mid-game so we can get this marginally on-topic?

I'm in favor of more Star Wars films, provided that they are good Star Wars films. Period.

1. LOL. Wow, either or both of these would be welcome, as I was in a game recently where a midstream GM replacement was considered. (It wound up not coming to pass and the game is in limbo / indefinite hiatus.)

2. Ron Howard would certainly have cultures: Hollywood at a considerable die code, having been a young actor before becoming a director.

I heard the Young Actor template is actually a pretty dangerous one to play.

Decent Perception, as he was a good enough actor back in the day... plus, I imagine being a director calls for a fair degree of Command. Decent Knowledge... Cultures: Hollywood and Bureaucracy would be reasonable. Don't think he's likely to have much in Strength, Dex, Mechanical. Maybe some technical, simply by osmosis.
