So, I was bored at school and decided to quickly make up a ship homebrew, and made this-The KET-24 Class Explorer. Basically an exploration vessel that has a militarized variant.

Welcome to the Pit.

Quote:
Crew-4 (1 Minimum)

This should also include the increased difficulty for operating the ship with the minimum crew. Example: Crew: 4 (1 @ +10)

Quote:
Cargo Capacity-250 kg

This is awfully low for such a large ship...

Quote:
Hyperdrive Backup:x5

This is exceptionally fast for a backup. With a x2 main drive, a x15 backup would be more appropriate.

Quote:
Hull:2D
Shield:3D, 3D

These are some pretty powerful shields for such a fragile ship (basically no tougher than a TIE Fighter). I'd flip the numbers and give it a 3D Hull with 2D Shields, then save the Backup Shields for the military variant

Quote:
Sensors
-Passive:75/5D
-Scan:100/5D +1
-Search:125/5D+2

It's a rare ship in the SWU that doesn't have a Focus mode on sensors, and such ships are generally on the cheap, low-quality side.

Quote:
Defiant-Class:The Defiant is the same as the KET-24

Generally speaking, a ship with a model code such as KET-24 will use the same code with a designation identifying it as a military variant (Example: KET-24m). The Defiant may be a nickname or some other unofficial title.

In conjunction with what I said above about cargo capacity, I would suggest giving the civilian version a larger cargo capacity, which is then used for the installation of the weaponry and backup shields. This would be in accordance with the Tramp Freighters rules for upgrading space transports

Quote:
Two Twin Mounted Turbolasers (Fire Linked)

So does this mean that all four (?) turbolasers are fire-linked together, and are all operated by the same crew? What exactly are you picturing here?

Also, turbolasers are awfully heavy for a ship this size. Personally, I'd go with Dual Heavy Laser Cannon, which still pack a punch but are much closer to legal in the SWU.

Quote:
Fire Arc:360

This is more commonly called Fire Arc: Turret (1 top, 1 bottom)

Quote:
Space Range-1/3/7
Atmosphere Range: 100/300/700 m

This is extremely short range for an energy weapon in the SWU. Even laser cannon can hit out to 25.

Rather large for an exploration vessel.. Also, what 'era' is this made for? Rise of the empire, rebellion, post endor, new jedi order??

What's the penalty for when only the 1 crew member is operating it?? With most ships having a penalty they are usually +10 for 1 of 2, or 1 of 3.. Since this is 1 of 4, i might see that to +15 or even +20..

Just based on this alone (the back up being so fast), i feel 250k is rather low.. 400k might be more appropriate..

Is that a type o? Or does this ship really have TWO 3d shield generators? And why does an exploration ship Need such a high shield rating? Let's compare it to scout ships already existing...
Vaya - 3d with 2d back up, but also a 'old republic/tales of the jedi era ship.
Redthorn - 1d
Sleuth - 2d
Vangaard pathfinder - 3d
Mining survey - 1d
Yvarema - 1d
Lonescout - 1d
Tie scout - 1d
Far reach - 1d
Explorer scout - 1d+2
Oreseaker scout - 2d
Skyblind - 3d
Outsystem - 1d
Deep-x explorer - No shields
Flatfish - no shields
Ferret - no shields
Prowler - no shields
Pacifier - 2d

So out of 18 scout ships, only 3 have 3d shields, 8 have 1d, 3 have 2d and 4 have none..

??? 5d sensors? Even some of the better scout ships do't get that high, on focus, let alone at all levels, plus the ranges are rather long.. Most ships are less than 50 for passive, less than 90 for scan and under a hundred for search.. Some have 120...

Now onto The militarized version..

So it carries skipray weaponry, Interesting. With the power output even one turbo needs, this should really have some downside, like say "When one of the twin turbos are fired, speed drops 2 due to power drain, if both are fired in the same round, speed drops TO 2 due to power draon. Can only fire every other round.

No problem on this one..

Good job. Nothing ridiculously overpwered.

Sensor of 5d may be a tad much, but most players gloss over that looking for the shields and weaponry stats lol.

The milspec variant has hefty turbo lasers but on the other hand they have spitting distance range to compensate.

250kg of cargo is plausible after all it's an explorer not a trader. All it should be expected to pick up are samples from locations its scouting.

Backup hypedrive of x5 does jive with a low end model listed in Galaxy Guide 6 Tramp Freighters .

Otherwise just a couple of minor formatting errors.

Since you went for two variants, why not go for three?
1). Transport Variant, with 50 metric tons of cargo capacity.

2). Scout Variant, modified from the Transport, sacrificing cargo capacity for Consumables and improved sensors.

3). Military Variant, sacrificing Consumables and Cargo Capacity for heavier shields and heavy weapons, essentially converting it into a low-end blastboat or a starbomber, with almost no cargo capacity.
