Just sa quick clarification on WotC's "force choke" reasoning.
First, there is no "Force choke" in d20. The power that has the "choke" application is called "force grip." It represents the ability to "clasp" an object with external pressure via telekinesis (d20 breaks up the various telekinetic effects into various powers: move object, force strike/push, force grip, etc).
The reason WotC errata'd the auto DSP out of that power is NOT because Luke choked out some gammorians, but rather because Mace Windu used the power on Genral Grievous in the cartoon to collapse his armor.
A player wrote in and asked if Mace should get a DSP for it and WotC made the change as a result of that question.
Later, when Dooku choked out Obi-Wan (whom WotC declared an "unquestionably heroic" character), they revised the power again to allow for the Force choke as an application of Force grip that gives an auto DSP and errata'd it so that it could harm PCs and major villans (up till Ep.3, we had only ever seen mooks targeted/affected by force chokes).
In any case, I would argue that Yoda, Obi Wan, and Qui-Gon without doubt have never accumulated any DSP in Star Wars canon, and if we aren't sure about whether a DSP is warranted, then we can first check to see if one of those characters has done something that parallels our question.
In the case of TK against a living being, even to cause damage, the films alone refute the notion that a DSP is warranted, not to mention the cartoons.
Finally, we don't ever see anyone using TK to yank a blaster out of an enemy's hand unless there is a colossal powere differential between the force user and the owner of the blaster. Therefore, I'd argue that it is extremely difficult to do and generally regarded by Jedi-types as an unprodu tive or "low percentage" method of "self defense." |

Since WOTC's sw game was made more for the height of the republic and jedi were a plenty, of course they would neuter force powers to remove the auto DSP, as players would WANT to be able to mimic all they saw, with little or no downsides.
As for Yoda having a dsp or not for his tossing those 2 guards when he went to combat the emperor.. All we have for official stats is what WEG put out for him in the ESB sourcebook.. And by then he has had PLENTY of time to redeem himself from the 1 he most likely got by doing so.. _________________ Confucious sayeth, don't wash cat while drunk! |
