Racing performance is primarily the machine, but a pilot has to be good enough to handle the machine.

If a ‘1’ is rolled on the wild die on any test, the pilot has to make a personal skill roll instead of taking out the highest die result of the test.

The pilot skill roll must exceed the total result of whatever test was just made. If it does not, there is a loss of control and likely crash.

Ie roll Thrust+ Maneuver for 5D, with a +2 for Dex attribute. A total of 24 is rolled, with a ‘1’ on the wild die.
The driver must now make a repulsor skill roll DC 24 or lose control.


Note:
--this is not for standard travel, only during high performance racing or pursuit.
--A pilot who refuses to push his machine past his skill level (never rolls more dice than his repulsor skill) does not need to make a skill check on a wild ‘1’. It negates the highest die result as normal.

Body: dice used to resist damage
Maneuver: dice rolled for maneuver tests.
Thrust: dice rolled to flat-out speed tests
Aero: dice rolled for prolonged speed tests
Accel dice rolled for speed tests at a start, or after a mishap or low-speed test.
Brake: dice rolled in maneuver tests after a flat-out speed test, or a stopping test.

Stability: dice used in a maintain control test.

Any two stats are added together for a dice pool as dictated by the type of test (see below) The total amount rolled is compared to the chart

Note: minimum of 1D rolled in any test, and always add the operator’s Dex attribute as a pip bonus.

Comparing results:
ie Roll
1-5: -1 space
6-9: +0 spaces
10-19: +1 space
20-29: +2 spaces
30-39: +3 spaces
40-49: +4 spaces
50-59: +5 spaces

Keep track of the vehicles on the racing chart. (a line of a dozen rectangles 'Spaces' in a column.)

Actual distances travelled is irrelevant; you are only tracking the relative positions of the vehicles in relation to each other. Imagine that the racing chart itself is moving along at the median speed of the involved vehicles.


Vehicles in the same space can nudge or sideswipe each other. A vehicle moving into the same space as another can attempt a ram or block. (Roll opposed Stability+Maneuver tests. Lower roll loses 2 spaces.)

Note: when the lead vehicle reaches the top of the tracking chart, move all vehicles back one or more spaces to make further room. Any vehicles dropping off the end are eliminated from contention.

Manuever + Maneuver

Brake + Maneuver


Jump
The course goes off a cliff or ascends a steep ramp to achieve a great height.
Stability+ Thrust

Sudden Stop
Some courses require a sudden deceleration to avoid a major hazard.

Pilot Tests:
Certain terrain features require pilot tests. These are in addition to the racing tests. There is always a penalty for failing a pilot test.

Balk:
A character can voluntarily drop back 4 spaces to drop the DC by 5.
or drop back 8 to drop the DC by 10


Obstacles:
Boulders, stalagmites, trees etc. The density determines the difficulty.
If the pilot roll is failed, the vehicle takes a hit; the damage roll is 1 point per point of failure. Roll the vehicle’s body to resist. Generally, any more than 5 points of damage will affect the driver as well.

Sudden Narrow
The race course becomes constricted; either a canyon, and alley way or other narrow pathway. Treat like an obstacle, but riders in the same space have the difficulty increased by 15. Either can fall back a space to avoid the penalty.

If both make the difficulty, the higher result maintains his position, the other is forced to fall back or crash.
