I'm always on the lookout for cool sci-fi ideas to incorporate into my games. I recently came across this graphic for the Future Force Warrior 2020 project. I hear it has been cancelled, but there are some neat ideas here for advanced armor in the SWU. Have a look...

Holy crap. Is this actually happening in RL?

Regardless, I would make the armor sort of like a Corellian Powersuit mixed with stormtrooper armor. No dex penalty due to the strength enhancers.

Maybe:
1D+2 Physical
1D Energy
No Dex Penalty
+2 to Strength tests (not resistance)

Don't forget +1D to Hide (Location Specific Cammo)

EDIT: Or +1D/2D to Perception/Search from the built-in sensors and heads-up display.

There are other proposed tech advances too, like personal IFF transponders and In-Stride Mine Avoidance Systems. Helmet cameras already exist, same with gun cameras, so a gunsight display on a helmet HUD is not far beyond that.

The Army really does want a way to deploy soldiers with the flexibility and stealth of an infantryman and the firepower and survivability of a tank. Millions have been spent on this, and while we associate it with sci-fi now, something analogous to the SPARTAN-III project may not be too far off.

They've been testing it for some time, but the system is too heavy and bulky right now; the average soldier doesn't want or need all that stuff.

I hope not to need it, but I'm sure I want it!

But do you want to carry all that stuff around?

Per the graphic, this suit has a power generator that runs on liquid hydrocarbon fuel; ten ounces is enough to power the suit for six days. You can do a lot in six days...

And ten ounces is NOT a lot of fluid, all things considered. Replacement cells full of fluid wouldn't be that hard to tote around, especially with power armor that's actively assisting the soldier in carrying his load.

Yeah, I'd have killed most of my chain of command to have had this suit. Of course, a good deal of them were pieces of crap to begin with, so it wouldn't have been that hard to conceive of anyway...

True. But like with every technological innovation, you have those stealing it, frauding it to the black market etc.. So if you stat something like this out for baddies, eventually it makes it into the hands of rebels.

IRL, this thing would be a nightmare. In RPG, it's freakin' awesome!
