Would it be possible to play a secondary character like an astromech or something?

That is fine. You can play as an Astromech. Once I get all the characters fleshed out you can select which pilot you wish to be the assistant for.

There is still room for players. Right now there are still 3 slots open for a human pilot (I have already locked in 3 human NPC slots, bios to go online next week), 1 slot open for a Mon Calamari pilot, 1 slot open for a Sollustan pilot so yeah there is plenty of room available. 5 total open slots.

Great I was thinking of playing an R3 astromech which seems to be a more military style astromech than an R2 model.

How would you like me to stat the character? Just the basic droid stats or should I use the 18 attribute dice for the attributes and gadgets (so the 4D welding torch takes four attribute dice) and then add skills with the character points?

I'm totally okay with having less character points/dice/whatnot to play with as I'm playing a support character.

As far as I can tell a basic R3 would be this:
•DEXTERITY 1D
•KNOWLEDGE 1D
•MECHANICAL 2D Astrogation 4D, Capital Ship Piloting 4D, Space Transports 3D
•PERCEPTION 1D Search 4D
•STRENGTH 1D
•TECHNICAL 2D Capital Ship Repair 6D, Capital Starship Weapon Repair 6D, Computer Programming/Repair 5D, Security 5D
Equipped with:

•Three wheeled legs (one retractable)
•Retractable heavy grasper arm
•Retractable fine work arm
•Small electric arc welder
•Small circular saw
•Video Display Screen
•Acoustic signaller
•Holographic projector/recorder
•Fire Extinguisher
•Heuristic processor
•Electromagnetic field sensor unit
•Internal comlink
•Infrared receptor
•Electroshock probe
•Intellex V computer

It would be an R3-D model droid so all the capital ship/space transport skills would be swapped for starfighter skills.

R3 is more powerful than a standard PC (25D), at 32D... keeping in mind that the organics started with only attributes, losing 7D, the droid would be starting at 14D above the rest of us (15D higher than my Twi'Lek). I'm not sure exactly what my point on the starting power level is, other than that you're starting in a good spot...
My actual point was regarding starting at factory specs, and advancing from there, as, with droids, it doesn't make sense to a) start less developed than factory spec, or b) start with more Attributes than standard, as that's one of the defining characters of playing droids (low attributes, high skills; specialization at the expense of generalization).

Thanks I hadn't actually counted out the stats. It might actually be more powerful that 32D when you include the saw and the like.

I'm happy to keep the basic stats (although modified for starfighters) and not have character points on top, the only reason I went for an R3 was that if you play an R2 unit then you're just trying to be R2-D2.

I'd go for an R1 but I don't think that will fit in an X-wing.

Nope, an R1 wasnt designed for a socket like that.

I honestly dont have a problem with you taking any astromech. After all, those of us who are running characters are going to be allowed to controll our own astromechs, if you are running an astromech as your primary character, I dont see the harm in making a few adjustments/improvements to help your character stand out.

Hey guys. Sorry I haven't been sounding off lately; I've not been online for more than a minute or two during the last week or so. I'll try to get my character statted out and PMed for approval either tonight or tomorrow.

Hello Gang!

Happy Wednesday. I am a little behind in the start up for the game. It's been a very hectic past week getting my 13 year old daughter back into the school groove plus have weekend Church conferences, meeting and commitments with my lovely wife, plus Labor Day BBQ... ah yes my fulfilling yet busy life. Anyways, I hope to get some traction this weekend and get this thing rolling by 9/15/12.

Best,

MM

BACKGROUND: Galen’s life has been spent among the stars. His parents owned a small shipping business, and while business was good, a small business means the boss is working too, instead of having others do the work. Rather than be apart from his family, they all traveled together.

Galen learned the life of a spacer—from piloting, to astrogating, to rolling up his sleeves and being covered in lubricants and coolant while performing repairs. At a very early age, he displayed a deep, natural ability for all things mechanical and technical. Piloting was like child’s play. Finding his way around the galaxy? No sweat. Much to his parents’ chagrin, nothing on board their ship was safe from his inquisitive fingers. He was naturally good at circumventing security systems, slicing, and also programming (or reprogramming) droids. Fortunately for them, he was (mostly) a well-behaved youth.

As he got older, Galen began working for his father in a more official capacity—piloting shipping runs, flying escort, and whatever else needed done. He enjoyed his life, even though that life was pretty much spent dodging the Empire. Life was good. That is, until the Empire finally bowled right through it.

On a run to the Kathol Rift, Galen and his parents were pulled out of hyperspace by an Interdictor cruiser, ordered to power down and prepare to be boarded, and informed they were under suspicion of being Rebel sympathizers. While this was, of course, preposterous—Galen’s family kept their heads down and their thrusters hot, going where the work was and not paying attention to galactic politics—the Halcyons had heard ever-increasing stories of individuals who were ‘suspected of being Rebel sympathizers’ being rounded up for questioning…and then simply disappearing. Having no desire to become another such statistic, Galen’s father ordered an immediate evacuation of the area. Galen, who was flying escort, ordered his R2 to plot a circuitous jump plan and pass it on to their freighter so they could synch their jumps. However, just as Squeaker was finishing the calculations, the Imperials opened fire. The barrage caught the freighter, blowing holes in the hull and completely severing the cockpit, killing all occupants outright. Galen screamed in outrage and pain, but kept enough of his wits about him to execute the hyperspace jump to safety.

Following this debacle, Galen consolidated what he could of his family’s assets, sold what he couldn’t use, and went off in search of the Rebel Alliance. After finding and joining them, he was able to trade in his beat-up old Z-95 Headhunter for a sleek X-wing fighter. When his skills became apparent in training, he was assigned to Panic Squadron.
