I looking for a new kind of flagship for the end of the Clone Wars era. Like taking a V-19 starfight shape into a cruiser class.
Anyone have any ideas what would make a good one?

Here are some thoughts I had:

#1.)

BB 2 Starfire

#2.)

Corona Class Armed Frigate

#3.)

Mankvim 814 Light Interceptor

I like their shape. So thought about just increasing their size. Maybe not the frigate. But nonetheless, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the subject.

I think 3 would look good "blown up".

I could see the V-19 making a viable capital ship if you were to enlarge the engines and move them in closer to the "cockpit", make a bridge to sit atop the "cockpit", extend some hull forward from the center, and maybe remove the hinges from the wings and thicken them.

Another thing to consider is that form follows function. If you want a flagship to be big and tough and carry lots of starfighters and troops and heavy weaponry, then it needs to have some volume to it. Something like the V-19 would have to be massive to have the internal volume necessary to function as a capital ship.

Usually if I want a new and unique capital ship, I do a Google Image Search for space ship or starship or something and look for something "Star Wars-ish". It may take a bit to find something that works for you, but IMO it works better in the long run.

Heh, I know what you mean. I went through a "mostly flat" starship design phase several years ago. The ships looked cool, but as soon as I tried to figure out what was inside of them, I realized they were impossible. Sad

If you're scaling up a starfighter, though, as a starting point, your only real lost space is probably going to end up in the wings. Starfighters tend to be densely constructed with large engines and exposed weapons, so they scale up nicely. Consider the similar aspect ratio between an A-wing and a Marauder Corvette, or an X-wing (less the wings) and a Carrack cruiser. Heck, remove the wings from a TIE fighter and scale it up and you have a Death Star.

I will do that as well thank you for the idea.

How's this?

I used the modifications I talked about above.

Obviously, I added/changed a couple of other details in the drawing stage, too.

Many of the 200m+ ships have more than two engines. How large is this ship supposed to be?

Another idea. I was watching an old Babylon 5 episode involving the First Ones. I really liked this ship.

It got me thinking. What if I made the Jedi Shuttle into a capital size ship?

So my question is, do you think if I made it about 1200 meters would it be large enough for a decent size docking bay? Or is it too thin?

You would have to change the cockpit. It clearly looks sized for 2-6 people max. Which sets the scale of the entire ship.

Alternately, if you like B5 try using a Centauri warship. IIR it has a somewhat similar look to the shuttle.

Yeah I was thinking of removing the cockpit entirely to make it look more like the B5 ship.

I had thought about the Minbari Sharlin Warcuiser but in my mind it is so classic, I just couldn't.
It would be like saying I made the first Super Star Destroyer or something.

Indeterminate size of at least 200 meters. There could be supplementary engines between the two main ones, just recessed. The main ones could even be clusters of smaller ones, if you wanted.

you could easily fit fighter bays in that. If you just removed the Cockpit entirely, I'd say that you could use the empty space to dock with larger ships, but if you replaced it, I don't see space for anything rivaling a Star Destroyer's bay. Maybe if you were to bulk up the hull at the base of the dorsal fin...

I may have just found the ship.

I was just wandering around surfing the net for different pictures. And found this wonderful gem.

I'd say it is at least 1600 meters. Regardless I think I am in love.
