Heyo.

So I was thinking of getting together all the NPCs, into one PDF. Separated by factions such as Rebels, Empire, Criminal, Republic, Etc.

I was wondering if anyone was interested in this project? Also, I can do a lot of the leg work with openoffice, and other writing documents I just don't have the tools to combine things into a PDF.

As in the book NPCs? That would be super cool but a lot of work.

Agreed, that would be excellent, but I cannot even think how much work that is......

I think it's a super cool idea but then (assuming you didn't go completely insane in the assembly process) the end result would probably be completely overwhelming. Once you break it down by faction, what then? Alphabetize? Somehow categorize the NPCs? If you did ALL of the NPCs, then you'd have to break it down further and have that information in a manageable format. I'm looking at the 30+ books on my shelf and thinking of how many NPCs there are in each one. And not all of them are particularly useful for the average game.

If I were doing a project like that, I'd be selective. Take the things that are going to be most useful in a broad range of games and compile them. Make it so they'd be easily printed off and hole punched on a 1/4 sheet of paper. You could slip it into a binder if you punched the holes right, and have some standard go-to npcs in a binder.

I think it's a great idea. I honestly wish I had the time to assist you. I'd like to see what you get done when you finish.

I think what I will do, is start first with the Rebel Alliance, The Empire, and the larger criminal elements. I think my first idea is to get the "stock" npcs done first. And get that out.

Stuff like Stormtroopers, Storm Commando's, Rebel Cell members. One of the questions though is sometimes stats are different depending on which source book you are looking at. So feedback will be great to take what version over what.

Also for the Sages to D6 this community has done, I'll be wanting to put those in the book too. That stock npcs that were coverted

After I get all that taken care I'd probably move on to named characters. Starting first with the big names, and then eventually getting to the ones even I don't know about (I honestly haven't thumbed through every single pdf I have and all the npcs there is. I know there is a lot.)

But the goal for me right now is to get all the stock people done. That is what I want.

Essentially all it will be is an openoffice document unless someone who can make pdfs assist. I don't have that equipment Wink. But I suppose once I have some work actually done, someone might be able to something with it.

I think the NPC guide is a great idea. If I could make another suggestion, also adding what era they are used in, and that might even result in multiple NPC stats as they age over the years.

I agree with this, i think era should be the first divide and then faction. Obviously the rebellion era would be mostly just compiling, other eras would make use of fan created material or require some generation.

I think it is a great idea overall and brilliant someone is starting it, though will take a lot of work but could eventually get to the stage were only EU additions would be required

For the VIPs I was thinking that would be the best idea. So if someone wanted to have A new hope Luke compared to Return of the Jedi, or beyond Luke. Though the VIPs will be the second phase.

Right now I'm working on the stock.

Rebellion
Empire
Independent
Republic
Separatist

I am just going through and making a list on how many stock npcs are there, and where I am getting their stats from. I'll post that when the list is done.

So this is the list I have of the first phase of NPCs I am going to tackle. I listed where I will be getting their stats, though if anyone has any thoughts on perhaps I should take these stats from here over those from over there I am more then willing to listen.

Essentially in goes Galaxy Guides First, Sourcebooks Second, and then everything else after that. In where I decide to take the stats from.

Also my goal is not to include a lot of droids in the NPCs, unless they fall into being stated out in a "typical" or "average" way. And since the CIS is very popular, also with the clone wars series, I figured it'd help if people could have a book they could easily flip through to find battle droid stats

Also if I am missing any stock NPC please tell me, and where I can find it. I want this book to be as complete as possible. (As in I hate Reborn Empire timeline. But, despite this, I can't exclude the npcs within it. As much as I want to.)

Looks great from an initial review! I can't wait to see this complete! Smile

Not sure I agree with GG first, then sourcebooks, but I may be in a minority here and I'm not sure I can quantify 'why', so for now I'll keep my unformed opinion to myself... Smile

Just as an aside when dividing things up, would all the Stormtrooper types be grouped together? Since basically I always saw them as all being Stormtroopers, just with different specializations, rather than being separate.

I would definately be interested in a book like that - but I'm afraid I wont have time to help assemble it Sad

Looks pretty comprehensive. The only thing that stood out to me was that you referenced the Rebel Era Campaign Guide for some NPCs, specifically things like Spacetroopers and Storm Commandos that actually appeared in the original WEG material. I'm not exactly sure what the Rebel Era Campaign Guide is, but the stats provided in the original WEG books are closer to the 'horse's mouth", as it were.

One thing I noticed about the Galaxy Guides compared to a lot of the other WEG material, is it is... How do I put it.... Weaker? Or the units in GG don't have very high skills.

Though I am still debating whether I should go GG then Sourcebooks, or Sourcebook then GG if there is a repeat in them.

I don't know if this is keeping it closer to "Ideal" or "realistic" or not with going with the lower stats, as some of the sourcebooks have very good stats for some of its VIPs and some NPCs

Also my goal is to group similiar units in the same area. Stormtroopers, SpecForce, Criminal thugs, etc.

I also want to divide it like
Era - Rise of the Empire - Battle of Yavin
Rebel/Empire/etc
Era Battle of Hoth - Return of the Jedi
Rebel/Empire/Etc
Clone Wars - Rise of the Empire
Republic/CIS/etc

That is what I am thinking of doing.

Also with the Rebel Era Campaign guide I noticed that too(As I looked at the conversions first, GG second, and then sourcebooks last.) I am gonna compare the stats and go with the sourcebook if they are different.
