Reading the thread of the Tector-class star destroyer awoke some more old memories from an old campaign. I dug up the papers and put it all up on my home page. It may contain some popups. Sorry about that. I made the story about this vessel so that it should contain loads of adventure hooks. I hope some of you might have use of it, and please feel free to dictate your own truth about it's whereabouts and destiny...

I like it actually. Will probably change the history a bit - but I like it. Smile

Not quite sure what to make of this ship. It's definitely vulnerable to starfighter attacks; indeed, with only 1,500 troops, it might even be vulnerable to capture by boarding from Alliance SpecForce Space Ops. With its weapon systems, it is obviously a formidable opponent, but it can still only be at one place at a time, and its unique design would make it easily tracked, so the Alliance could use their time honored technique of simply avoiding it, hitting the Empire where it's weak, as opposed to attacking where it's strong.

I think my biggest issue is its lack of versatility. It's designed to do just one thing: pound on other ships. While it does that well, it's very limited everywhere else. It could be thrown in as a surprise attack, but if this thing showed up announced during an Alliance mission, the automatic reaction would be to scatter and head for the exits rather than stay around and fight.

Absolutely correct on all points Very Happy

That's part of it's absurd and rather tragic history. It is supposed to be backed up by other cruisers, such as escort carriers and lancer frigates, but since it wasn't part of the standard fleet it got kind of shoved aside. While it could have been a very powerful asset, it was kept far off in the outskirts of the galaxy where it more or less wasted away it's time. Or at least that is what is known... I left quite much space in the story, for people to fill in whatever could be useful in their adventures.

I spent a little more time thinking about it, and I think this ship would best be used as a roving independent command within an Oversector, assigned to various combat situations as needed. Specifically, oversector command could assign the ship to offensive missions when it knows it will face strong resistance. It would be most potent on planetary assault missions, or attacks on other fixed assets where the enemy has to stand and fight. With its specialization on big guns, the ship would be a formidable defense against capital ships if the fleet were in an objective orbit (concentrated over a specific area of the planet), but would be much less useful in a siege orbit (fleet scattered in various orbits around the planet to interdict all traffic). IMO, the ship would stay in system just long enough for any major capital ship threats to be removed, then move on to its next missions posthaste.

Would have caused a great deal of damage to the Alliance if it had been present at the battle of Endor.

I would remove a few turbolasers in favor of a gravity well projector... Or just keep it paired with an interdictor cruiser.

True, but your ship is still outgunned by an Executor-class, which the Empire had there, and the Alliance still won.

Very true. But then again; that opens up the possibility that it is still out there, somewhere... (depending on what era you play in off course)

Considering the Imperial Navy's relative disdain for starfighters in favor of capital ships, you could easily strip the quad-laser towers off a few Lancer-class frigates (or just copy the design) and make this thing practically invincible.

Yeah, of course if you kept the interdictor in close formation, it's quads could keep the Alpha covered.
