Huh. Strange. I have no trouble at all following all that. I'd say the quotes make it easier, actually - you always know what point a particular reply is to. But that may be because I'm a participant, not an outside observer.

Be it as it may, I think we milked it for all it's worth as far as the original topic is concerned. We're pretty far into off topic territory now. So, for clarity's sake, we should probably wrap this up, and move any further discussion on dodging grenades to a new thread, if anybody feels like it.

I think I just figured out how I'd implement a rule like this.

If a person has a speciality at +1D (or more) higher than the base skill then when they switch from using the speciality to the base skill I'd be tempted to give them a -1 modifier for ten minutes or so.

For example Generic X-Wing Pilot has star fighters at 4D but he has the speciality X-Wing at 6D+1. Now it comes to pass that his X-Wing needs repairs and while that is happening he is assigned a Y-Wing. When he gets into the Y-Wing his familiarity with the X-Wing means he'll be constantly looking for the switches/leavers/readings where they are on an X-Wing and there will be a short lived re-familiarisation period.

I thought about this when I was driving my other car yesterday and I attempted to use the hand break which in my other car is actually a pedal.
