With the tech lvel starwars exhibits, i have always wondered why i have never seen anything like a smart link system for weapons..

IF one existed, what would it do?

I'm not sure what you mean. Can you elaborate?

There are weapons with "smart link" it's called fire control, unfortunately, those types of "smart" weapons are usually connected to a suit of power armor, or there are certain sniper scopes that are "smart" which grant the shooter fire control bonuses.

To elaborate:

Smart weapons are (if I remember correctly of course) computerized weapons that usually would have some type of hook up to a cybernetic hand/arm, which would feed targeting data into the cyborg's vision, making the weapon able to be fired in any direction with the borg able to see and aim. A non-borg could get glasses or something that would do a similar readout and grant the bonuses.

Am I correct Garhkal? I remember seeing smart links in Shadowrun and Cyberpunk, and I seem to recall that's how they worked.

Aye, Raven. Incidentally, my uplifted octopus in Eclipse Phase currently has a smartlink from his rail rifle to his cybereyes.

That's what I was thinking, but didn't want to jump to conclusions.

Doesn't Boba Fett have a scomp link that adds (irc) +1d to blaster?

Something like that. I believe a similar product is in the Bounty Hunter Sourcebook as a helmet add-on. I believe it only works at Med-Long range.

There is another that reduces the range modifier by one level; similar concept, different implementation.

Yup. Basically a smart link system comes in 2 parts.
One on the weapon (whether external or internal) that 'sees' where the weapon is, and links to a small sensor to monitor things like weapon charge (or ammo count), barrel temp, wind speed/direction and so on; and one either in or on the head which receives that info and helps you compute the best way to point the weapon to shoot.

So your question is what does it look like.

Wink

That's a good question.

So, smart links, or S-comp links? I'm confused...

They are, sorta, except s-comp links in Star Wars are only available on armor. Smart links are usually patched right into a cyborg's brain, or a pair of shooting glasses. I was wondering what you meant by what does it look like. I was asking if you meant smart link, or s-comp.

S-Comp is usually reserved for weaponry that's directly mounted on the armor. Also called WITS (Weapon integration & targeting system) on some suits of armor. Allows the wearer to link a couple of weapons into the computer, from what I've noticed, is the WITS pretty much only compensates, and barely increases above the armor's dexterity penalties. So if a suit of power armor gives -2D Dexterity, the WITS gives +2D+2 to a few mounted weapons. The other example they have, has -1D dexterity, and WITS gives +1D to 2 mounted weapons.

I sort of imagine S-Comp, WITS, and smart links doing what robo cop did, when he calculated a ricochet shot, or zooms in and locks in on someone's face when their hiding behind cover, those sorts of things. With blaster technology, calculating wind speed is a moot point, because laser technology isn't affected by wind.

It seems that if you can scomp link your blaster into your helmet viewplate you can to the same to a pair of goggles made for the equipment.

Yeah, but Boba Fett's S-comp link lowers range categories by 2, so long range becomes short range, so it's like a sniper's scope addition I think. Smart link is a little different than that, that would be like adding fire control to your blaster.

Very true, but it would also reduce range penalties as it also incorporates range finder tech..
