What do things weigh? How much can my PC carry before he is lightly encumbered, moderately encumbered, heavily encumbered?

Has this been answered before? We are encountering this with our current game where we have a Trianni and a Gand sporting Medium Repeating Blasters and some body armor. They are fairly strong, but we were wondering as to how much the could comfortably carry and not be encumbered.

Thanks.

Yes, there is an encombrence discussion in Spec Force. As an easier side not, look up lifting's skill description - it should give you a good idea of what the character can lift, and likely carry. (Since the skill is used to load cargo ships which involves not only lifting the cargo but carring it into the ship.)

But what about the weight or encumberance people can carry on their persons? A blaster must weigh something. How many blasters can a person carry before he is overloaded?

Personally, I use common sense for weight values. A blaster should be about 1 to 3 lbs, double that for rifles.

A good starting limit should be around two blasters (pistols), one rifle, and about three or so misc. weapons. (Again size of weapon should be more important than weight in my opinion.)

Hope this helps Smile .

EG. My current character, a spec force infiltrator, with a 3d strength carries

1 suit of armor worn
1 headstrap comlink
2 vibrodaggers in boot sheaths
1 blaster pistol (for those times his other weapons are not worthy..
1 assault rifle with 6clips (in pouches on his LBV)
1 Load bearing vest (over the armor)
1 slug thrower pistol with 2 clips
1 small backpack with 4 med packs in...

I carried more than that when serving. Your basic load sounds reasonable to me.

Two words: Power Armour. Very Happy

You can carry as much as isn't hard to get a grip on for as long as the battery life holds out.

This smells to much like D&D... Use common sense with this one!

Yeah, sometimes a cinematic game is just that... a cinematic game. Quick and dirty dice rolls instead of extreme bookkeeping. If a guy has a light repeater slung over his shoulder, I'll let him have it. If he puts on another one, I'll see if he's strong based on his STR. If he wants to sling three light repeaters, I'll blindside him with a stamina roll maybe one game hour down the line... which would sucks if he's supposed to be running away from something at the time. Wink

However, you can create simple encumbrance house rules easily. Just assign a weight in kilograms to the list of equipment that you have and what you can do is assign a max encumbrance to Strength code. Eg. STR 2D 40kg, STR 2D+1 45kg, STR 2D+2 50kg, STR 3D 55kg, etc. Anything more will require a stamina roll after an 30 minutes or an hour of non-exertion and 1 minute (or even 3 rounds if you're mean) of exertion, for example.

This is just off the top of my head. You can probably fine tune it better if you give it more thought.

True.

Personally though, I just let the players equip (unless overly outrageous, like using an e-web as a single person Arnold S. Style). If the player wishes to pick up and carry something big (table, half tonne other player character) then I make them roll various lifting and stamina checks.

By the way, the weirdest thing my player carried around to shoot with (for a short while) was a single X-wing Taim & Bak KX-9 cannon. They juryrigged it so power was fed from a portable power converter and it took four guys to carry it around and one of the four hit the switch to fire.

Yes, it was insanely difficult to aim, they looked stupid doing it and it shorted out after 3 shots, if I remember correctly... but it was super fun when the players did it.
