Back on topic (at least kinda) have you considered using suspensors in your game?

I know you're a 40K fan and way back in the Rogue Trader days there was wargear called "suspensors" that were tiny anti-grav plates put on heavy weapons and equipment to make them far lighter.

This could potentially be adapted to Star Wars (repulsorlift technology) and applied to heavy weapons to make them more man portable for a sizable increase in cost/power requirements.

As opposed to the prudence of carrying around registered nuclear devices around on their backs?

I think exactly where the aforementioned items are bing carried and if the players have filled out the proper paperwork is of negligible concern compared to just what they are carrying.
