Many thanks for the kind words, Bren!

I do enjoy it and though time is scarce nowadays, I shall keep at it.
I'm always glad to hear that people dig the obscure characters!

*Blushes and bows* Thank you kindly, Whill. The sentiment is very much likewise!

EDIT: Ahoy, all! I just wanted to let everyone know that my RL deadlines, workload and moving from one apartment to another, are all
consuming considerable time. And so, this is another (hopefully brief) hiatus for the Obscure Character Archive. It shall return however!

The "REAL" OBSCURE CHARACTER TUESDAY presents... "Fake Wedge" — aka
COL TAKBRIGHT from A New Hope and the 2017 short story "Duty Roster."

At long last, we finally have an in-universe canon name and separate identity for "Fake Wedge" (played by Colin Higgins
and long known to fans for playing the OG Wedge before being fired), courtesy of Jason Fry's short story "Duty Roster,"
appearing in From a Certain Point of View, the SW 40th anniversary short story anthology.

And in a nice bit of fan service that I don't mind one bit, the "Fake Wedge" nickname is even applied to the character in-universe.
Of course, as was standard practice in even the old EU, the character's name is a tuckerization of actor Colin Higgins —
though here there is also some cross-IP action, as his new canon name also references Higgins' character Tak from Blake 7.

Lastly, SPOILER ALERT: The bio/capsule text in this write-up directly quotes from and condenses Fry's story, ending and all.
And so, proceed at your own risk and hope you dig!

EDIT: I will have to take yet another (hopefully brief) hiatus here, as RL has proven to be quite hectic yet again! See you again in the near(ish) future!

Come "Solo" for the lobster lunch, but stay for the high-stakes card tournament?

OBSCURE CHARACTER ARCHIVE presents:

THERM SCISSORPUNCH
Type: Boastful Bully

(As of Solo: A Star Wars Story)

DEXTERITY 3D+1
Brawling parry 4D, dodge 4D
KNOWLEDGE 2D+2
Intimidation 4D+2, planetary systems 3D+1,
streetwise 4D+1, survival 3D, value 3D+1
MECHANICAL 3D
Astrogation 3D+2, space transports 3D+2
PERCEPTION 2D+1
Bargain 3D+1, con 3D, hide 3D+1,
gambling: Sabacc 3D+1
STRENGTH 4D
Brawling 4D+2
TECHNICAL 2D+2

Species: Nephran
Gender: Male
Homeworld: Nepotis

Character Points: 4
Move: 8

Equipment: Data fragments to offer in exchange for Coaxium, dwindling sum of credits for
betting and gambling, large bowl of green noodles, pressurized combination flight/diving suit,
sharpened shank implant (STR+1D damage if used when brawling, implanted in left claw,
requires Difficult Perception or search check to spot).

Special Abilities & Story Factors:
Amphibious: Nephran can survive both on land and in water. They gain a +1D bonus to swimming checks.

    Chitinous Carapace:
A Naphran's exoskeleton provides the species a +1D bonus to Strength to resist physical damage.

"Crusher" Claws: The Nephran gain a +1D bonus toward the success of any grappling attempts
or grip-related checks made with their pinchers, and a +1D bonus to grappling/crushing damage.

"Desperado" Bravado: Therm Scissorpunch wants desperately to earn a name for himself in the Underworld.
As such, he has taken to displays of posturing bravado and to attempts at inventing his own legend.
Therm will not only fabricate self-aggrandizing stories about working for secret, high-powered crimebosses,
he will award himself "tough" sounding nicknames.

Eyestalks: Capable of moving independently, the eyestalks of Nephran grant them a +1D bonus
to vision-based Perception or search rolls.

Fearsome Appearance: The crustacean features of the Nephran are often off-putting and
even frightening to many, granting the species a +1D bonus to their Intimidation checks.

Poor Fine Motor Dexterity: Because their large claws lack fingers, tasks that require fine manual dexterity and/or
digital manipulation are more difficult for Nephran than they are for species with individual, more dexterous digits.
Nephran attempt such actions at +2D to the normal difficulty.

Capsule: Therm insisted that you call him, "Therm Scissorpunch" — although it was unknown if the nickname was one
that he had actually earned, or simply one he created for himself and was desperately trying to popularize.

In 10 BBY, Scissorpunch played (and lost) hands of Sabacc to both Lando Calrissian and Han Solo, at the Lodge on Vandor-1.
The Nephran relied on his fearsome appearance to intimidate other gamblers, largely because he was unable to rely upon
his skill at playing cards — which was mediocre at best.

Years later, sometime after the Battle of Yavin, and on behalf of his unnamed "Boss", Scissorpunch would enlist the aid
of veteran spacer Saponza, in order to acquire Coaxium in exchange for data fragments.

Therm's "acting" in this ^ 360 degree trailer is pretty great.
Therm throws his cards down in a huff when he folds, etc.

OBSCURE CHARACTER ARCHIVE presents stats and write-up for PROACH from Star Wars: Rebels.

This agile Trandoshan Overseer was named in tribute to Pat Roach, the burly barechested mechanic who brawled with Indiana Jones
in Raiders of the Lost Ark. See Proach give Zeb and Kanan a real run for their money here: https://youtu.be/x7hS6q2H_7U?t=1m14s

PROACH

Type: Mining Guild Slave Master

DEXTERITY 4D+1
Brawling parry 6D+2, dodge 6D, melee combat 5D, melee combat: whip 7D+2, running 5D+1
KNOWLEDGE 2D
Intimidation 6D+1, survival 4D, willpower 3D+1
MECHANICAL 2D+1
Machinery operation 4D, starfighter piloting: Mining Guild TIE fighter 4D, starship gunnery 3D
PERCEPTION 2D+2
Command: slaves 4D+1, search 3D+1, sneak 4D
STRENGTH 4D+2
Brawling: martial arts 8D+2, climbing/jumping 6D, lifting 6D, stamina 5D
TECHNICAL 2D
First aid 2D+2, security 4D+1

Species: Trandoshan
Gender: Male
Dark Side Points: 2
Character Points: 6
Move: 9
Size: Over 2.1 meters tall

Special Skills: Martial Arts: Proach knows the following hand-to-hand combat techniques:
  • Elbow Smash: Very Easy Difficulty. If skill check meets difficulty and attack hits target, Proach gains a +1D bonus to his damage roll, delivering a powerful elbow blow to his opponent.

  • Disarm: Moderate Difficulty. If attack is successful, and neither parried nor dodged, and if skill check meets the difficulty number, then Proach disarms his target.

  • Hold/Grapple: Moderate Difficulty + opposed Strength roll. If Proach succeeds on both skill checks, then he holds his target immobile. For every round target is held, the characters must make an opposed Strength roll. If the target beats Proach's Strength roll, he breaks free of the hold.

  • "Suplex" Throw: Moderate Difficulty. If technique difficulty is met and attack is successful, Proach vertically inverts, lifts, then slams his opponent to the ground, inflicting 3D damage due to impact. Once thrown, opponent is prone, and must spend one action in order to stand back up. (Proach may also use other "Professional Wrestling" throws for dramatic/descriptive purposes, but game effects are unchanged.)

Species Special Abilities:
  • Infrared Vision: Trandoshans are capable of seeing in the infrared spectrum. If there are ambient heat sources present, then Trandoshans can see clearly in low-light conditions and in darkness without penalty.

  • Poor Fine Motor Skills: Due to the physiology of their fingers and hands, Trandoshans have difficulty performing any actions that require precise manual dexterity, such as picking locks or similar feats of prestidigitation. Trandoshans suffer a -2D penalty whenever they attempt any such actions.

Note: Due to current canon's depiction of Trandoshans as being far more manually dextrous than WEG's species mechanics seem to suggest, it is left to the GM's discretion as to whether or not to enforce this character element from the Legends era.

  • Reputation for Hostility: In many circles, Trandoshans are known as a belligerent species. Due to this stereotype, Trandoshan characters gain +1D to all intimidation rolls against non-Trandoshans.

Equipment: Electro-whip (Melee Difficulty: Moderate. Damage: STR+1 physical, or +1D to grappling and disarm attacks. 5D stun damage: user may deploy stun charge as additional non-roll action once target is grappled. Additional Game Effects: Whip may be retracted into hilt as non-roll action. This feature may be used as winch to pull wielder toward a target he has successfully grappled, or to pull grappled objects toward the user. At minimum, whip is capable of supporting a large humanoid's weight: treat as Body Strength 5D+1. Range: 0-5m), fingerless gloves, hardhat-style helmet (+1D vs. physical, +2 vs. energy, covers head only), Mining Guild uniform, TIE/mg Mining Guild starfighter, utility belt.

Capsule: Proach was a ruthless Trandoshan who oversaw slaves working in the Mining Guild's ore crawlers on Lothal. Wielding an electro-whip, the "foreman" was an imposing presence and deadly warrior.

Though Proach was called upon to man a TIE/mg starfighter for the Mining Guild at times, it was while serving as foreman aboard Crawler 413-24 in 1 BBY, that Proach faced his toughest test — and said test came not from a slave. Proach even managed to get the drop on Kanan Jarrus during the Spectres' attempted hijacking of the vessel. The Trandoshan slavemaster successfully disarmed and incapacitated the Jedi Knight, but he would meet his match whilst engaged in fierce hand-to-combat with Zeb Orrelios. Proach fought the Lasat to a near stalemate, before falling to his death.

Stats by Telsij. Capsule text adapted from https://www.starwars.com/databank/guild-slave-master-proach and Wookieepedia.

Note: The "Crawler Commandeers" episode guide's trivia gallery revealed Proach to be an homage to Pat Roach as he appeared in Raiders of the Lost Ark (see inset).

Guardians is a great spiritual successor to SW in many ways, no? And man, if more names in the same vein of "Scissorpunch" were introduced, I'd be all for it. Solo has a few, though none reach the same heights....

OBSCURE CHARACTER ARCHIVE presents stats and write-ups for:
AURODIA VENTAFOLI and LULEO PRIMOC from SOLO: A Star Wars Story.

As much as I love the Modal Nodes and the "Cantina Band" theme,
the tune that this duo duet on is probably the first "in-universe" song
I'd listen to at my leisure. Here's the soundtrack version of what they
perform on Dryden Vos' yacht, before it was decided to pitch down
Primoc's vocals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QvoUr2HphE&feature=youtu.be

Equipment: Corded auropyle gown, elaborate headdress, multi-vocoder
(Boosts voice to non-human frequencies. Game Notes: If properly tuned via a
successful Alien species skill check + an EASY communications roll, device eliminates
any penalties incurred due to a user's vocals being out of a given species' audio spectrum,
while granting a +1D bonus to user’s artist or persuasion rolls), golden stiletto-heel shoes.

Capsule: A best-selling recording artist billed as the "Chanteuse of the Stars,"
Aurodia Ventafoli and her music were in high demand. She usually headlined high-end
concert halls, and touring made it difficult for her to settle in one place for too long,
but by 10 BBY, Ventafoli had taken a booking she couldn’t refuse: an extended residency
aboard Dryden Vos’ yacht for a hefty sum. And using her multi-vocoder, Ventafoli boosts
her already impressive voice so that it attains nonhuman frequencies, thus allowing her
work to reach the widest audience possible.

Species Special Abilities:
Formaldehyde Preservation: Soaking in formaldehyde allows Gallusians
to maintain their physical well-being and to extend their lives. If a Gallusian
is immersed in such a chemical bath for at least eight hours on a given day,
he may reroll one failed stamina skill check and one failed natural healing
check that day. However, he must accept the subsequent results of said rerolls.

Liquid Breathing: The Gallusians' respiratory system allows them to breathe both gas and liquid.

Swimmers: Because of their adaptive respiratory system, Gallusians have also evolved
a natural inclination for swimming, using contraction of their muscles and tentacles
for propulson. At time of character creation only, Gallusian characters may add +2D
for every 1D they place in their swimming skill.

Equipment: Repulsorlift-fitted flask filled with formaldehyde (Move: 5,
Maneuverability: +2, Skill: Repulsorlift operation, Body Strength: 2D,

Capsule: First impressions of this tiny Gallusian might not suggest a recording legend,
but Luleo Primoc was a chart-topping singer in the years before the Clone Wars. He also
starred in a series of old holomovies while wearing a dashing humanoid exo-suit.
Now past his prime, Luleo is still favored by retro-collectors and enthusiasts.

OBSCURE CHARACTER ARCHIVE presents stats/write-up for
JESSICA MEADE, from the Star Wars: Droids animated series!

After rewatching all the old episodes and reading through the old comics,
I had statted her up ages ago for Shooting Womprats' (still-in-progress)
Droids sourcebook!

Hopefully, that too sees the light of day in the not-too-distant future!
PS: Here's the prototype for her (quite-80's) unreleased Kenner toy:

Force Points: 1
Character Points: 11
Move: 10

Species: Human
Gender: Female
Homeworld: Tyne's Horky
Size: Over 1.75 meters tall

Background: A tramp freighter captain with a love of travel, Jessica Meade
has hauled cargo across many starlanes. Through it all, she was always willing
to help those in need. Because of this, Meade became entangled in the intrigue
surrounding the ascendancy of Mon Julpa, crown prince of Tammuz-an.

At Doodnik's Café on the mining world of Tyne's Horky, Meade stepped in to
aid a young miner named Jann Tosh, in fighting off the local crime lord's goons.
Agreeing to transport him and his mysterious passengers to Tammuz-an,
she and Tosh went on to play crucial roles in restoring the crown prince as
rightful ruler of his people. In thanks for her efforts, King Mon Julpa rewarded
Meade with a new starship, after her first freighter was lost to an attack by
the Pirates of Tarnoonga. Fittingly, Meade named this new transport, the King's Ransom.

Meade would stay on as an adviser to Mon Julpa for a time, before returning
to the life of a trader. And it was while transporting fuel to Tammuz-an, that
she again ran afoul of the Pirates of Tarnoonga.

Jessica’s cumbersome flight suit belied her true tall-and-slender build. The suit even
earned her the nickname "Old Iron Pants", but it was her fiery spirit that won her
the unwanted affections of pirate captain, Kybo Ren. Despite her capture, Meade was
able to outwit and elude Ren. Meade even helped halt the pirate raider's operations,
with the aid of Jann Tosh and his two droids, C-3PO and R2-D2.

Description: An assertive, attractive, and savvy young woman, with tan skin,
brown eyes, and short, dark hair that she styled sharply into a flattop, Jessica Meade
suffered no fools.

Equipment: Bulky vacuum suit and helmet (provides 10 hours of atmosphere,
+2 vs. energy, -1 penalty to Dexterity and related skills. Suit’s cumbersome design
effectively obscures wearer’s identity, and has earned Meade the nickname “Old Iron Pants”
amongst those who have not seen her helmetless. Suit is similar in appearance to space suits
that were once standard issue for the crew of agricultural freighters), comlink, dark red boots,
dark red dual utility belt, gray-blue jumpsuit, miniature stunner (5D stun damage, range: 3-5/10/20,
ammo: 15, Very Easy (5) Hide check to conceal), modified Surronian L-series light freighter
(Corsalys), Tammuz-an fuel transport tanker (King’s Ransom. Awarded to Meade by
Mon Julpa, after her freighter was destroyed in the course of ensuring his safe return to Tammuz-an).

This is a little bit of a cheat, seeing as how with a fair amount of scene-stealing silver screen time,
he's not exactly "obscure", BUT IN ANY CASE: with the announcement of the return of the Clone Wars,

Species: Ardennian
Gender: Male

Character Points: 8
Move: 12
Size: 1.49 meters tall

Species Special Abilities:
  • Four Arms/Hands: Ardennians have four dexterous arms and hands. When using all these limbs, they can perform two actions per round without incurring a multi-action penalty. However, performing a third action in a round incurs a -1D penalty, a fourth action a -2D penalty, and so forth.

  • Prehensile Toes: Ardennians may grasp and hold items using their feet, and are far more comfortable incorporating their feet into tasks than are many other bipedal humanoids. In game terms, when their prehensile toes are used, Ardennians gain a +1D bonus to Dexterity checks required to retain their balance or footing, and to running and climbing/jumping checks.

  • Sharp Teeth: Ardennians have sharp pointed teeth. If used in combat, they inflict STR+1D damage.

Capsule: A diminutive, six-limbed Ardennian, Rio Durant was a longtime associate of both Tobias Beckett and Val. A capable pilot, skilled tactician, and lover of good stories, Durant was a veteran of the Freedom's Sons — an independent army that aided the Republic in the Clone Wars. Joining the army seemed a smart idea for the young Ardennian, but Freedom's Sons "never paid a pension" — and so, Rio now earned a living applying his military skills to a life of crime.

Durant has carried out dangerous missions alongside Beckett since the early days of their criminal careers. The good-natured Ardnennian pilot loved to cook for his teammates, as well as help hatch schemes. Rio was up for any challenge, especially if it would make a good addition to his repertoire of outlandish tales — always told with bravado, his battlefield humor spoke of a lifetime of danger. He saw each new scam dreamed up by Beckett gang’s as a chance to write a new tale.

Equipment: Comlink, fingerless spacer's gloves, Imperial "Mudtrooper" infantry uniform and field helmet, military identification tags, polarized flight goggles (prevents flashblinding), two SE-14r light repeating blaster pistols (see separate entry), utility belt with dual-holsters, vacuum suit with sealing-ringed limbs and Torplex LVD-41 pilot life support package (provides 10 hours of breathable atmosphere).

In game terms, when their prehensile toes are used, Ardennians gain a +1D bonus to Dexterity checks required to retain their balance or footing, and to running and climbing/jumping checks.

My pleasure! A shade outside "obscure" parameters, but for the best spider-monkey around, why not add a little
MacGuffin... er, Coaxium to the hyperdrive, now that the Pit is under the benign rule of Smilin' Sheev? Wink
