I can see maybe a mortally wounded equivalent for droids. I can tell you from experience I have had mechanical issues with cars that that can have a quick fix to keep it going for a while but if you don't get the full repair it will be catastrophic for the vehicle's engine.

Which was, incidentally, the LAST time Whill let me drive his car.

I think it's a mistake to align droid damage with the standard character damage chart. We can argue the ins and outs of droid sentience and whether or not they are truly individuals, but from a physical sense, they are constructs, and any damage should be treated as such. IMO, the concept of "unstabilized wounds" causing future damage would best be tied in with Wild Dice failures and the resulting complications.

So perhaps it should be only 4 grades. Light damage, heavy damage, severe damage and destroyed.

I think there is also room for an Ionized / Stunned result below Lightly Damaged.

Right.

But I think he means you can have a mechanical condition that if you don't take care of it pretty darn quick, you are going to have things go MUCH worse.

Ie a roll to prevent a catastrophic break down.

Makes me think of Terminator 2 when the T-800 gets that rod rammed through the torso by the T-1000.

He apparently 'dies' (Nearly obliterated and fading...)

But a little while later, his system manages to re-route itself to aux power and he comes back online.

To me this is self-stabilization. Alternatively another character with the know-how could have made a roll to assist.

Excellent example.

As to whether droids could/should be mortally wounded, I can take it or leave it, but if the droid is a PC, it does provide for some degree of drama that can assist in creating a sense of urgency in the scene... the potential for the droid to be saved or lost forever.

Sure. While I can see a mortally wounded analog for droids, I've never bothered with that in my game. Droids are damaged and repaired just like any other equipment, but I don't have Droid PCs in my game. Damage/Wound levels is something to think about for Shard-Droid Symbiont PCs, which haven't yet but will allow going forward.
